The Ruger Vaquero lockwork is much like that of the single action Ruger Blackhawk, in that the hammer needs not be half cocked in order to chamber cartridges. The cylinder rotates freely upon opening the loading gate with the hammer forward and uncocked. The Vaqueros are very sturdy revolvers and exhibit smooth handling when shooting. The hammer makes very distinctive sounds when cocking, as does the cylinder while rotating freely with the open gate. A Vaquero was featured in the movie, "3,000 Miles to Graceland" during a draw down with Kevin Costner's character and a patrolman. The patrolman was seen spinning the cylinder prior to holstering the revolver. These two Vaquero revolvers are chambered in the 44-40 winchester cartridge, feature Ajax grips, and Gun Leather from The Tombstone Leather Company.
