These are now available, but they haven't said yet how many of them they are going to produce (I like it better when they state that). I like the fact that it is a Series 70, but the color scheme??? Oh, as I type thise, Camfour has 8 of them in stock.

Good lord, a Wiley Clapp model! Even he is getting some recognition in the rebirth of pistol popularity under the current regime. I gotta admit I have no problem with that pistol other than those mondo finger shadows on the grip. What the hey?

The grips are easy to mess with, but what's up with the slide flats? Looks corroded.

Well somebody figured they could sell some of these. Camfour showed an inventory of 9 for several days, and today I noticed it is down to 4. That means they sold at least 5 of them. Before you jump all over me that 9-4 = 5, and it has to be 5, no it doesn't because they could have received more of them on the same day that they sold some.

It would be judicious for a man to keep his Clapp concealed.

Wiley Clapp was very well known for writing articles on the Sig Sauers, about 16 years ago.

It would be judicious for a man to keep his Clapp concealed. You are SOOO BAD!!! I'm going to be lauging at that all day long. Actually the women in Vietnam were very good at that. Of course this is hearsay on my part.

He makes a solid argument for that as a carry gun. Is it full-size or commander length?

Well Sherlock, taking a clue from the name: "Wiley Clapp Commander"... ;D (Thanks, I needed a reason to chuckle today).
From the Camfour database:

Callahan, you did me a favor - good buddy. I hadn't noticed that it was the commander size either. I was seriously thinking of getting it, but if I was to buy another 1911, I wanted it to be a Government size.
I was feeling rather badly because I was thinking about getting a new gun. Then while picking up an I.O. Hellcat today, I saw the Dan Wesson Valor...

The DW Commander Classic Bobtail that I like has been discontinued.

I was just not paying close attention and meanwhile typing away mindlessly. Heck, I'm not even retired yet!

Why am I up at 2:30AM? Dang. Brain is in overtime, I guess. Wife is coming home from Japan tomorrow, and I still have a ton of things to do, but not at this hour.
MLB, Becky has one of those with the bobtail. I thought it looked a little weird, and I didn't like the sights as well as I did on the Valor. The sight picture on the Valor really impressed me, although the sights are fixed. Becky looked it up on line because I wondered if it had a match barrel or not. She didn't see it in the distributor's spec. When I was cleaning it last night, I noticed the word "Match" on the barrel.
So anyhow, I cocked it, looked through the sights and pulled the trigger. That was all it took. I put it down and said: "add that to my bill".
While I was there, I looked at a Remington 1911R1 that someone had on "lay-away". With my thumb protecting the firing pin, I tried the trigger a couple of times. Yuk. It was very creepy. I know, I know, that can be fixed, but I have enough to do. I would call it an entry level 1911. However, if it were me, I'd go for the Taurus instead.
Getting back to the DW: the barrel bushing is one of the tightest that I've ever run into. They supply a plastic tool for removing it, and trust me - you need it. I didn't think I'd ever get the thing apart last night. The tight fit is between the bushing and the slide. The only thing I ever found worse was the S&W 952 - its bushing isn't removable and you have to put the barrel back through it at an angle to get it back into the slide. They even tell you in the manual that it is difficult.
I was a tad surprised at the grips on the Valor. I don't know what they are made out of, but certainly look like some sort of plastic. When you buy something at a store without doing research first...
One other little tidbit and then I'm off to try to get some more sleep: on the right side it says: "Norwich, NY". I don't know how big the city is, and I have never been there, but it is where my step-father was born to immigrants from Hungary.

Photography is important. The Wiley Clapp is not green. After seeing how accurate Ed was with the PPK/s, I am convinced that the Commander at 7 yards wouldn't be much different than the Government model.
Oh, how I know about the green is because of an e-mail with Bob at Talo.

......"The New Commander .45 design by Wiley Clapp" ......"Quantities are not yet limited. First production April 2010 Suggested Retail $1379" ..The beauty of a Colt 1911 is most aftermarket parts are made for the Colt 1911 and Commander is no different. ...Why have a gold bead on the front sight for a lightweight defensive carry pistol ? ....The Beavertail is good to place the grip closer to the axis of he bore line. .....The tolerances the the fit of the barrel and slide can be a matter of choice, when looking among the stock of Colts at your local counter. .....I like to choose my own fire control components for my Colts, that way, I will know what I have in its guts. ......The beauty of finish is not very important when looking at a carry piece. ......Colt made the Officer's APC , 3" Barrel, for more concealment under garments. My own Officer has fired without a hitch for more than 400 rds during each session. ......The finger grooves may not fit each hand; Buy your own grips. ......I would pass on this pistol has a carry piece because a Defensive Pistol, in a 1911, should be more personalized. Whats good for Wiley Clapp may not be good for everyone else.
