While my cousin (the Fed) was here last week, I let him dry-fire my Glock G34. He was impressed with the trigger. I also showed him that you didn't have to totally rack the slide to re-cock the pistol when dry-firing. He has to re-qualify 4 times a year, but the only practice he gets between those sessions is dry-firing. I've finally reached the point where I'm really pleased with this pistol - really, really, pleased. In fact I'm so pleased that I'm thinking of getting a G17L. I've also been thinking about the Ruger Alaskan in 454 Casull. It would cost me about the same as the Glock 17L. I'm in no hurry to get either one, but I might get the Ruger before the Glock. I'm a little concerned about the Longslide. Thinking back about my H&K Elite experience with its longslide, it was a bit problematic with rejects. I'm still waiting for my STI Targetmaster in 9mm, which should ship this week. www.stiguns.com/guns/Targetmaster/Targetmaster.html If it works well, then I may decide to get the Glock first.

Nooo TMan Noooo! Don't be tempted by the Dark Side...
Honestly though, I have family in LE. He loves his issued G21. Always goes bang, less recoil in .45 than my P99 in .40, and he can put them closer together than I can with any of my handguns.
It still looks like it was drawn by a 5yr old with a wide sharpie though.

I just cannot warm up to these pistols. I have tried. I picked up a G21 one day and it was like holding a hunk of 2X4. The G23 size frame seems better, especially 3rd Generation. They are without a doubt, a fine combat weapon, but I don't think they are for me.

TA, I've hated mine ever since I bought it until this last modification adding the Ghost Rocket Connector. I don't think that it made the pull any lighter, but it got rid of all of the over-travel.
The trigger is now at the point that I really like it, and with the fiber-optic sight, I'm shooting quite well with it, which is why I'm thinking of buying another one. There is only one model that I would consider, and that is the 17L. However, what I'd really like, which they don't make, is a 17LC.

The first handgun I ever trained with was a Beretta M9 during my tour in the Corps. However, I spent little time handling and shooting it. When I later bought my first handgun - a Glock 17C - I molded myself to the small frame Glocks and became quite fond of them. I like the grip angle, I like the feel of the grip itself... I even like the looks. I've also taken a liking to the large frame models this year with my acquisition of a G20 and the very recent purchase of a G30. Glocks are like beer. For many people they are an acquired taste. Had I started out with other handguns, I may not have ever come to like Glocks...

Okay, it was just infatuation - not true love. I did some trigger work on the Ruger 10/22-T, and my buddy put the Volquartsen kit into his regular 10/22. I was feeling pretty good going to the range with my trigger breaking at 2-1/4lb. We then tried his trigger and it was breaking at 1-3/4lb. I was shooting Wolf Match Extra and he was shooting CCI Standard Velocity. I was getting fairly good groups (it was windy); he was grumbling. I then gave him some of the Wolf, and he said it made a world of difference. Down to the pistol range. He has the 3.5lb connector in his Glock and has close to 3,000 rounds through it. I only have around 300-500 rounds through the 34. I did okay, with mine, but when we swapped, and I shot his 19, I didn't do as well with his, but he did well with mine. I noticed the recoil more with the 19. At the end I asked if I could dry-fire his 19. It was better than my 34 in spite of all the work and money I spent on it. So MLB, your prayers were answered: I came to my senses and returned from the Dark Side. ;D

The only times I have ever fired Glocks was at the relentless urging of the owners. I don't know if they expected me to succumb to the pistol or what. After shooting their Glocks I would return the favor by offering up one of my own pistols. This jesture was usually declined with rejection. I understand that any pistol which fires with a degree of reliablity, accuracy, and comfort to the user is useful but I also understand that we do not live in a one gun for all world. I have come to the cross roads of never picking up another Glock unless it is my own. Since I already own pistols which chambers most popular American cartridges, I might give thought toward building a small collection of 9mm pistols in the future. This would open new interest with the Browning HP, a few Glocks, the Sig Sauer 226 & 228, and, with luck, a Stoeger Luger. If I went toward the route of collecting only polymer pistols, it would exclude those of any historical significance. This method of focusing more on the 9mm would allow me to remain in touch with machined steel and wood grips, while covering various designs and use of different metals.

My recent BHP acquisition in 9mm opened up another justification to getting that elusive Walther P5C I've been oogling. Two handguns in 9mm make better use of the ammo right?

I still like and want a 19. Seems like a nice little package they have there in regards to size, weight, and capacity.

Yes MLB I've been thinking on them, but the ones I like, KN Nills at $118 make me think.... I put some more cash and I get another gun... Is it worth it?... Besides the P5C is my CCW gun, don't nills suffer with sweat and rubbing while ccw?

"Worth it" is a subjective thing. Spending $30,000 on a vehicle that is sellable at no more than $3,000 inside of 10 years isn't "worth it", but we do it. You have a good point about using expensive grips on a carry gun though. You might consider trying your hand at making a set of custom wood grips. I did that with my ppk/s and it turned out really well. Cost me under $10 for the wood at a woodworking shop, and a bunch of time at the Dremmel. As this is my primary carry handgun, it sees a bit of wear. It's not really noticable on the smooth oil finish I put on it, and easily fixed if it should. A stippled finish that looks teriffic on the Nills may be a different story though. If it getts looking ratty, maybe I'll get a set of checkering files and try my hand at that as well. TA seems to have a gift for it.
