I have found out by examining the spent cartridges of the primer indention's, caused by the firing pin, I also can determine if the firing pin is dragging. Because the firing pin acts on a inertia, the firing pin depends on the firing pin spring to retract the pin upon ejection. If the spring fails in it's attempt to fully retract the firing pin, this will cause the pin to drag across the primer cap upon ejection of the spent cartridge. This can cause the firing pin to prematurely wear put, or break.
