That's embarrassing for him.] MLB; To some normal people, you would think so; but he wore the bandage on his thumb like he was a war hero. He was so proud of his injury, he had his portrait made for the newspapers. This person is now our county commissioner.

It again reminds me of how lucky that Jim was shooting my 460XVR. With the X-Frame, people tend to want to support it with the weak hand instead of using both hands on the grip. Jim got his thumb burned, but not badly.
I learned that whenever I let anyone shoot any of my guns, I stand on the weakhand side to see how they are holding it. With revolvers I ensure they aren't going to get burned. With pistols I look to see where the weak thumb is. I've yelled: "STOP! STOP! STOP!" when I saw a friend who wasn't a pistol shooter about to get his thumb clobbered.
The only gun where following this approach doesn't work that well is with the P5. It ejects to the left so I have to dodge the empties flying at me.

Where Eldrin probably screwed up, he mention changing his grip to help control the gun, I assumed that he placed his off hand on the barrel to gain more leverage on the gun. The stupid idiot didn't think about the flash coming from the forcing cone. Don't forget Eldrin was the Chief of Police of Atlanta, back when Maynard Jackson took office as the first Black Mayor of Atlanta. I believe that it needs no explanation ;D New Atlanta Police Chief AP Published: August 21, 1990

I wouldn't be quite so judgmental. Having observed a lot of shooters in my role as RO, I've observed a lot of highly intelligent people do some things others would consider extremely dumb. In fact the smarter the people are, the more prone they seem to be in making mistakes. Jim is one of the smartest people I've ever met; he is also a very experienced pistol shooter. He had never shot a large revolver and never thought about the cylinder blast. I love telling the story about him talking on his cell-phone at the range. I overheard him say: "Yes, that does sound like gunfire. They told me this was a bad neighborhood, but I didn't realize it was this bad." Hmmm, having just read over what I wrote above, and thinking about all my screw-ups in the past, I wonder if I'm intelligent?

TMan; Around these parts, the Police, the legislators, and of the elected officials use the fact that citizens should not have the right to carry firearms, because of they're lacking the proper training. Eldrin Bell was the Police Chief of Atlanta. This is from the County Police Chief, in the county where I live : Jeff Turner, aka "Chief" of the Clayton County Police Department, uses a broad brush to paint the State Firearm Licensed permit holders with those are nothing but common robbers, murderous thugs, gang bangers, rapists, and known criminals. Turner Follow Ups To Provide Protection From State License Firearms Permit Holders.

I got burned just a few weeks ago myself while firing my old Flintlock 40 cal rifle. Had my one finger to close to the touch hole. Won't do that again for a really long time. I have been shooting well over 50 years and still need the odd reminder myself. You can Never think you know it all about safety because that's when you can get hurt if you do.

....Most injuries are done to the thumb. "Revolver burned my thumb", Eldrin Bell says.....Eldrin Bell was Atlanta's Police Chief
....Eldrin's thumb wasn't burned by the gun, it was burned by his own ignorance and stupidly...Eldrin was an active member of The Democrat Party and The NAACP......I never had any doubts how he was elevated to the rank of Chief of Police.
