Guess I wouldn't mind having one of these in my collection: The scary part is that looks like a Cartier watch next, and although they aren't as expensive as Rolex, they come close. My Cartier was about $1K less than my Rolex. Looks like this gun is the price of my Rolex. Know what? I think it is probably a better buy than a Rolex. What the heck are "Tru-Ivory" grips. Sounds something like "Genuine Faux Pearls". I don't equate "Tru-Ivory" to "True Ivory". Sorry, but I'm just a skeptic. I've been told that gun serial numbers are unique. That is you couldn't have say a Kimber with a serial number of 12345 and a Ruger with a serial number of 12345. So Ed Brown getting the prefix of JMB was quite a coup. I have a Wilson, STI, Les Baer, Kimbers, but I don't have an Ed Brown. What did I do with Mrs. Santa Claus's number ;D More information is at: www.edbrown.com/centennial.htm

Tru ivory is synthetic. www.truivory.com/theproducts.htm"Hands Down the Best Ivory Sustitute Ever!" For that kind of money, you could get a couple Rem-Rand 1911a1's you mentioned earlier and have some money to spare.

I generally don't like ivory, (real, faux, Tru-, or otherwise). The pewter look of this model does lend itself to the ivory grips though.

5OT, thanks for the link. That was interesting reading. Before shelling out what they want for grips, I'd really like to see them in person vs just looking at a picture on the screen - if you know what I mean.
I still don't understand why the MSRP on that gun is so high. I do like the fact that they don't use MIM parts. Also reading on the Ed Brown web-site, he has some interesting points about the "accuracy" of his guns i.e. more money doesn't mean more accurate.

Becky called Ed Brown today while I was there. The lead time on this pistol is 90 days. Also, it isn't a limited edition - you want one then they will make it.

Guess what, I talked to Becky and the lead time on the expensive Centennial is now 8 months. Maybe in time for Christmas.

Must be all of that engraving. I'd bet that takes a skilled person a long time.

Must be all of that engraving. I'd bet that takes a skilled person a long time. Laser Engraving & Laser Engraving Machines ....There is too much tomfoolery going on in the firearm industry to cut cost, by using machines that once required highly skilled labor and craftsmanship; This took the art form out of the spectrum of making firearms.

Here is Wilson Combat's 100th anniversary edition. www.wilsoncombat.com/p_100th.htmThey have been running 5-6 months for most guns lately. I believe I have one coming. I think I am keeping it.

TA, Becky tried to get me the Wilson, but was told that they were all sold out. So my only chance would be if someone had ordered one and then didn't have the money to pay for it. That is how I got the BMW Z8. Of course I had to pay MSRP.
I've got a craving for engraving (sorry). The Les Baer is just a little too plain for that kind of money to suit my current taste (at one point in my life I didn't like engraving on a gun). I think a lot of what you are paying for is the ivory.

...I would recommend to compare prices with the pistols that TA mentioned. The Ed Brown Centennial Edition, with it's laser engraving, is priced at $6995.

DA, that is true, and I don't have a hangup with laser engraving. I'm in awe of what they have done with carvings on wood using lasers. I don't rank laser engraving with MIM.
Speaking of which, I saw a thing on TV where the CEO of Taurus was showing how they made the MIM parts. The part is much larger than its final size. It shrinks as it is heat treated.

This is the cheaper version of the Centennial and it arrived yesterday. The barrel looks like the one in this picture, which is of the more expensive version: The serial number is JMB1XX where XX < 50. This is the first gun that I've bought with the "jewelled barrel hood", and I must admit that I like the looks of it. Unlike the Kimber, this one will be shot. Hopefully within the next week.

I'd have thought that firing that one would mar the jeweled barrel hood. A very nice iron you have there.
