Inertia is a bad thing if you're a cheap Crosman airgun scope.
One of these cheesy little things came with my son's Crosman 760, but it's kind of silly to put a scope on a smoothbore bb rifle, so we never used it.
Last weekend, he wanted to go out in the back yard and show the plastic bottles who was boss. I grabbed my RWS Diana that weighs as much as any two of my other rifles combined. I'd use that while he used a break action pellet rifle that was a bit lighter.
Just to play around, I thought I'd drop that Crosman scope on the RWS. Bad plan. Got it sighted in relatively quickly, but then things got squirrley. Shots all over. After another few shots, something was rattling around inside the scope.
The RWS Diana Model 48 is a spring powered cannon that sends pellets at about 1100 fps. It also has enough recoil to rattle a plastic and aluminum scope to pieces. ;D

I've heard that air guns, especially spring operated, are especially tough on scopes. My son got his first bb gun last year. I bought him the same model that I had when I was a kid. The model number and general appearance are the same, but mine had a lot more metal than plastic. His seems to be the opposite. The price hadn't changed over 30yrs, so I guess something had to give. Plastic and made in China.

Missed this thread somewhere in my travels.
Yes, a springer requires a special scope that can take the reverse recoil and vibrations set up during the firing.
My air-rifle came with a scope that was matched to it, and I've never had a problem with it other than the fact that the AO settings are off a bit. In other words: if your target is at 25 yards, and you set the AO to 25 yards, you will still have parallax.
I wonder what the manufacturer would say if you sent back a Leupold scope that had been used on a springer?
