Just when I thought I wouldn't be buying anymore 1911's, along comes Ruger. Read all about it at the Gunblast web-site. To me it really looks good, but I'll be interested in other opinions. www.gunblast.com/Ruger-SR1911.htmModified to add: Here is Michael Bane's take on the new gun. One interesting comment that he made was that he didn't think that an 8 round magazine was as reliable as the 7 round, and that Ruger shipped both with the gun. www.downrange.tv/blog/the-ruger-sr1911-video/9290/

I like it. Glad to see that they skipped the front serrations.
Like DA, I'd love to see a blued version, but expect that it would likely be something more in line with Remington's blackened version. A true polished blue would be my choice.

You know, I've watched Ed shoot my guns and he knows that I don't like people using the slide release, I want them to pull back on the slide and then release it with their paw far away from the operation. What he always does is to reach forward around the front sight to grab the slide. I have on occasion seen, and had it happen to me where the webbing between the thumb and index finger gets caught between the slide and the barrel. (Not when I was shooting, but when I was working on a pistol). By grabbing the slide where Ed does, your hand is never in any danger. So for people like him, front serrations on the slide are nice. I kind of like them for esthetic's too because they balance the ones that are on the rear. Of course if it is engraved you certainly wouldn't want serrations up there. Can you imagine this pistol with front Serrations? Yuk!

My mitts are far from the muzzle when cycling the slide, so it's not functional for me anyway. The aesthetic point is personal, and just doesn't do it for me. To each his own though. That's why we have probably 40 companies making these things.

Just read a bit more about it. Glad to see that they went with the Series 70 setup instead of the Series 80. That's a big point in my book.
What are the expert's opinions on the internal extractor?
