OK, so they are a year late, but Remington has announced two R1 Centenial Editions. The more expensive of the two is a Limited Edition. This is the less expensive one and has just a little bit of engraving: The more expensive one has more engraving and better grips: It also has a gold banner, which I just happen to think is tacky: In addition (for the $1,000 more), you also get a walnut presentation case. I think I'll pass on the Limited Edition, but I'm somewhat interested in the less expensive version.

I like the less engraved version, but with the smooth grips. Never liked large serrations or checkering.

MLB, I agree with you. I really like the grips on the LE.
The thing with checkering on grips or serrations is I don't like them if they hurt my hand. However, I'd prefer smooth grips. I mean, just look at the above grips.
I'm certainly not going to spend the money on the LE just to get the grips, and I have enough gold.
