....These pistols are the only pistols that I have with the recoil reducing muzzle-flip compensator on the end of of the barrels. I also have the standard versions of these pistols. Sig 229 Sport - 357sig /.40S&W The 229 Sport pistol features a heavier Sauer match grade target barrel, ported muzzle brake compensator with expansion chamber, rear adjustable LPA sight, high profile front sight, extended controls, extended magazine base plate, action tuned trigger, and Hogue rubber grips. These pistols are hand assembled and hand fitted in Germany by one of Sig's master gunsmiths. The frame is precision machined from a solid block of stainless steel. The overall fit, finish, and smoothness of these pistols is flawless. I have two sports, one in .40 S&W with a handfitted 357 sig conversion barrel, and the other in 357 sig. The .40 S&W recoil is almost nonexistant, while the 357 sig is very mild. My only wish is that these pistols could have 1911 triggers. The rigid stainless frames and slides of these pistols have such smoothness in their operation and very solid feel. I wish I could find a 1911 with these frames, slides, and barrels. ....From SIGARMS :

The Sigs are extremely nice pistols for sure but I have a Compensator for my 1958 S&W M41 which I removed and replaced with a false nose instead. I found it was making virtually all my rounds go to the left which was a problem needless to say. Once I removed it and put the nose on the problem improved a great deal. I heard years ago that the US shooting team did the same thing with these and discovered the same results. Had a problem with the sights on this gun until a week back as well but now have that straightened out also. Its a great shooter just like my 46 as well.

......One thing that is a contributor to the lesser recoil, of the Sig Sport Pistols, is the Stainless Frames & The Forge Steel Locking Inserts. The Standard P-Series Sig Sauer frames are made from aluminum alloy.
......I have fired the lightweight aluminum alloy frames of the 1911 pistols, went to the carbon steel frames with the same frame size, and found that the carbon steel versions absorbs much of the recoil, than the lightweights. Same thing holds true will the carbon steel revolvers; The larger the frame, the less recoil.
