...Having the hammer follow, on a 1911 pistol, without pressing on the trigger.......This is called "Hammer Fall"or "Unintentional Firing". Sometimes this happens when the operator (shooter), fails to properly learn about mechanics of the pistol.
....Although The 1911 is a simple design, it is one pistol that requires knowledge from the inside of the pistol.

I think I mentioned this before:
I was shooting at Bass Pro Shops, a dangerous place to be, by the way.
Shooting my Ruger P90, I was counting the rounds vs. watching for the slide to lock back. I thought the gun was empty, and as I was lowering it with my finger still on the trigger, the gun went off and the round hit the floor. God only knows where it went after that. I was done for the day.
Lesson learned: Not only do you not put your finger on the trigger until you have acquired the target, you take your finger off the trigger when... crap, what word would be opposite to 'acquired'.
