...and not an ounce of plastic on it anywhere. All steel and wood (well, a bit of aluminum trigger too).
I need to read up on the shock buffer, and the modified hammer you wrote about that protects the sear hooks.

...Bill Wilson recommended the shock buffers, long before he began producing his own line of 1911 pistols. The Shock Buffers prevents the battering of the frame, when the dust cover & the recoil guide rod head meets upon recoil ( Slide Cycling ). In other words, the buffer, prevents premature wear on this part of the frame. The impact of the .45 acp, has a hammering effect, if using the more powerful defensive loads. The Recoil Spring rating also plays an important role.
