......I install these grip screws, to replace the factory slotted screws; The reason for this, the slotted screw driver might slip and scratch the grips. It don't take but one slip to messed up and nice pair of grip panels, the Hex Head Screws provides a non-slip hold on the screw. ....The Hex Head Grip Screws usually comes with an Allen Wrench. These Screws, comes in a set of 4 each, and they are available at Brownell's, Wolf Gun Springs, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, or Top Gun Supply.

I have one of those Gun screw kit sets from Brownel-s which probably has around 200 different sized screws in the kit. Don't use it that often but it is great to have when I do need a weird sized gun screw as it has them all in it. Saved my butt a few times on the line already when one gets lost.

Replacing the slotted screws with allens sure does look nice, and practical for the reasons DA noted too. Bugs me just a little that it blocks JMB's plan to be able to field strip it with just a spent casing though.

I seldom took off my grip panels, while field stripping my 1911 in the Army. Shooting more than 50 rounds in the Army, was rare, because of the shortage of .45 acp ammo. The Factory Colt Magazine's Plate Lip, also serves as a Screw Driver to remove the Slotted Grip Screws.
