Be Prepared: The Motto of the Boy Scouts of America .....When I was a youth, I belong to The Boy Scouts of America. I learned many things from being a scout, but the first was learning how to "Be Prepared". .......Recently, there has been a shortage of ammo, a rising cost of certain ammo magazines, and certain types of firearms. ......During the Clinton Administration I begin to stock up of ammo, never allowing each of my 9 different handgun calibers to fall less than 1,000. rounds each. Many of my most used calibers are stocked piled, but, requires ration budget. This ammunition is stored in air tight cases or in military ammo cans, in air controlled environments; As with my firearms, my Gun Leather, and my Books & Videos. .......Being Prepared as always prevented me from making panic purchases. .......In 1983, I approached my wife about purchasing an original New Condition Colt AR-15 Sporter Rifle for $500, she told me NO......In 1982, I was offered a Nickel Plated Colt Python "Hunter" for $300. dollars....But My Wife said NO. .......Not until she began to learn that firearms had investment qualities attached to dollar signs $$$$, then she began to understand the true meaning. This light became apparent to her, shortly before The Assault Weapon Ban of 1994. .....By The Way; My Wife never understood why I was always trying to be prepared, when nothing was going wrong.

I learned that the hard way during a bit of bad weather here several years ago. Nothing awful, but the power was out for a few days. Generators were gone quickly, and priced through the roof.
Nothing like need to show you the value of preparation.

Our CSIS agents discovered a plot to-day here and arrested 2 more Al-Quada Goofballs who were going to derail a Canadian Passenger train between Toronto and New York City. This train was to leave New York and go to Toronto this afternoon but was stopped and no-one was hurt except maybe the prisoners. I would not like the Welcome they get in jail from the other inmates in Toronto as it will not be very friendly. I hope it hurts a lot. I know our RCMP had help from the FBI on this matter as they work to-gether on many cases. I still hold my Queen Scout as well and practise the Be Prepared motto. Queen Scout is the same as a Eagle Scout. It really does change your life when you are trained that way and for the better I really believe. Still have my Gold ring as well.

...In my opinion; Being Prepared is like having insurance, and Preparing for the worse of times.

I also was in Scouts and have my Queen Scout which I believe is the same as your Eagle Scout in the US. Still have my Gold Ring and cord as well. It does change your way of thought as it seems I am usually ready for virtually any strange problem that may arise. My house is wired for my Generator also and my furnace is part of my hook=up along with my complete kitchen. Gonna be warm and not be hungry I will say for sure heaven forbid we lose the power for a week or so. Moved into my 24ft trailer after one storm 38 years ago now. Had a washroom, furnace and stove with 60lbs of fuel on board. Warm as toast in that one. My kids were little at that time and it was a blessing to have as this was Feb and I bought it at Christmas. Our city was declared a disaster area and shutdown for 10 days straight. Ice storm with it being 1 ft thick in some places. Not even the trains could run at all.

...While I was growing up, I always noticed that Father and Grandfather always carried a pocket knife in their front pocket; This reminds me of this quote :
...."“Better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.” ― Franz Kafka.

I carry a Electricians knife in my front pocket and a Leatherman on my hip at all times. Its a habit I got into from my training in Scouts and I find virtually everyday I find a use for the Leatherman tool. I have fixed the silliest small things with it but it always comes thru when you need a weird tool to do a simple repair it seems. Don't use the pocket knife as much but its still very handy to have with me I find.
