.....Some how, I might have mess up on this new format.....with that said, I'm creating a new Safety thread.
...Quoting from Jeff Cooper : “Safety is something that happens between your ears, not something you hold in your hands.”
......This is a good starting point to begin a discussion.

....Before I had The Internet at my finger tips, I read many articles written by Jeff Cooper, and I also have many video tapes by him. There was one that I disagreed with him, and this was with the decocker : Jeff Cooper's Commentaries Vol. 1, No. 1, June 1993 Lowering the hammer on the Sig Sauers
......I have to stress that thumbing the hammer down on a Sig Sauer P- Series pistol disengages the incorporated safety lock work to the pistol, while allowing the hammer to rest on the firing pin. The decocker is not there to make life easier on your thumb; It's purpose is to safely lower the hammer, while disengaging the sear, and activating the firing pin safety block. Thumbing the hammer defeats this safety system.« Thread Started on Aug 28, 2009, 2:06am » handgunforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=3046&page=1Topic: Learning About Gun Control : The Hard Way « Thread Started on Feb 21, 2010, 8:17pm »

....Many Law Enforcement Police Agencies had a problem with the Sig Sauer decockers, because many would lower the hammer with their thumb prior to holstering the pistol. This would result in accidental discharges when holstering the pistol. Another problem was with the double action stroke, changing over the the lighter single stroke after the first round. Many Police tried to defeat both, by manually cocking the hammer on the first round, and forget ( or didn't know ) to use the decocker. This is perhaps the prime reasoning behind Sig Sauer developing a double action only trigger system.

I had a Berretta FS92 series 9mm pistol which also comes with a decocker. I very seldom used it as we do not use holsters up here unless you are involved with Cowboy shooting,Ipsic or PPG. Even those times are strictly limited to their events only for usage plus they must have a certified RO on the course as well. To me there is no such thing as too much safety ever.
