....The Muzzle Flip issue has much to do with the placement of the shooting hand, and the proximately of the bore. The closest the shooting hand is to the Axis of the Bore, the less muzzle flip. This one reason that I use grips with the exposed back straps on revolvers. One the most important things for me is a low bore axis, which equates in the middle of the bore placed above the firing hand as you maintained your grip. This also places the bore in close proximately and alignment with your shooing arm, which greatly reduces recoil, muzzle flip, helps improves accuracy and the control of the weapon, from one shot to the next.
...The Y-Axis Energy can be greatly reduced by aligning the barrel with the shooting arm, wrist, maintaining a high bore axis, using the proper springs, right grips, and by using right ammunition.
.....Frame size on revolvers has a lot to do with the impact of recoil and muzzle flip, and so does the ammo, the trigger, and how the hand is placed on the grip. This is a custom made S&W 44 magnum revolver, that I traded for my Wilson Combat pistols. This revolver was made for Combat Self Defense purposes, with a 8 lb double action stroke. This revolver had less felt recoil than a J-Frame S&W .357 magnum revolver. Notice the opened backstrap with the Hogue Grip Stock. this places my web of my grip closer to the center axis to the bore. My self defense load was the Hornady 44 magnum with a muzzle velocity of 1550 FPS.
....I'm not a shooting instructor of handguns, by any means, but I have found out which works best for myself.

This holds true with other pistols & revolvers, with me.
..... Remember this; Using a High Grip equates to bringing the Shooting Hand Closer with The Axis of The Bore. If it is done right, it will be like pointing your index finger on the target.
.....Many of us might already know this, but for others, I thought this bit of information might be helpful.
....Perhaps the most ergonomically designed pistol in The History of This Nation, is the 1911, which gives reasoning and logic why so many manufacturers relies on it's popularity among shooters and enthusiasts . Because of it's Low Bore Axis, the 1911 pistol is my choice as the yard stick to which all others are measured by. The up swept beaver tail safety also adds to the pistol's ergonomically design.
...A low bore axis, which, in simple terms means that the middle of the bore is just a little above the firing hand. The bore cannot rise as much in recoil when this low bore axis is present, there is simply no leverage for the gun to rise.
