Recently, I've been shooting the Taurus 608, which is an 8 round .357 Magnum and is ported. Although I've done okay, I've never done quite as well with the Taurus as I have with the Beretta Stampede. I don't even shoot my .22's any better than I do with the Stampede. I've wondered if it was the grips, sight radius, accuracy of the gun...? Today I was at the gun shop and looking at a Uberti 1873 Cattleman when I noticed something: the rear "sight" is very narrow. If you are able to see all of the front sight, you are dead-on. The Taurus has an orange front sight, but there is a lot of space to the left and right of the front sight as viewed through the rear sight. Since I'm old, I know that when I'm focused on the front sight, I'm not seeing the rear sight all that well, and I'm thinking that I don't have it centered. If I was consistently shooting to a particular spot relative to the POA, I'd think it was trigger control or something, but I have the shotgun effect. Anyone else experience this, or have any thoughts? (Yes DA, you know darn well I walked out with the Uberti, but tax included it was only $290 )

TMan; Some years ago I purchased a very inexpensive Millet Bench Rest, one that I've actually seen used in several accuracy tests for Handgun publications. I paid around 12 or 13 dollars for the rest and bought my brother one too. I've used the rest with some of my target pistols to test their accuracy at 25 yds with fairly good results. This is one stable method of testing the accuracy of your guns while setting up the centering on the rear sight. TMan; When are we going to take a serious look at the Cimarrons ?

Unfortunately, the club doesn't let us shoot from a bench rest on the handgun ranges. I think you can set a target at 25 yards on the rifle range, which would work. Is Millet the best to get? But I thought that Cimarron was made by Uberti. Looking at their web-site I don't see too much that appeals to me. The Uberti I bought was the Millennium edition, and has a MSRP of $275, which I paid close to. However, this was from my gunsmith shop, and I don't mind paying a little more buying from him. I'd really hate it if he went out of business, but my altruism has limits. I kind of liked the brass embellishments. I'd seen it there several times and didn't like it, but it kind of grew on me. Out of the box the trigger is breaking a 3lbs 10oz, not great, but very crisp. The thing with the Cimarrons is that they are mostly for .45 Long Colt. I really don't want to stock another caliber especially if I end up getting a .44 Magnum. The gun I'm drooling over is that Navy Arms 1875 Schofield Founders edition, model SFM038. I told my dealer I'd be willing to even go over MSRP if she could get it for me (I completely trust her). I need to get it before I think about a Cimarron, but if I was to get a Cimarron, the Evil Roy and the 1872 Open Top are the most interesting to me. Here is the open top from their web-site: It looks a little fragile; is it?

P.S. Another reason for buying the Uberti: so I'd have something to shoot since I can't get into my dang safe.

TMan; I'm happy with my Uberti, which is probably why I haven't looked in the Cimarrons for myself. The one Cimarron I really like alot is the Doc Holiday Rig with the birdshead grip and shoulder holster. How are you gonna get in your safe ?

Oh; The Millet is one of the best for it's purpose, portability, setting up, and the price. The Ransom Rest is probably one of the better bench rests for handguns but it costs alot more and secures the gun on it's own. With the Millet, your actually holding the grip and looking down the sights while the Millet provides a steady perch for the barrel and butt of the grip to rest.

The one Cimarron I really like alot is the Doc Holiday Rig with the birdshead grip and shoulder holster. How are you gonna get in your safe ? Neither the Bisley nor the birdshead grip fit my hand well, so I don't buy those. I have a funny hand: XL broad palm and long thin fingers. (I had to have my wedding ring made for me because men's sizes aren't small enough). How am I going to get into the safe? Good question! It doesn't make sense. When I go on a trip, the keys to the car, the house keys (we have reinforced locks on interior doors, which are alarmed, as well as exterior) in a plastic zip-lock bag and put them in the safe (not the gun one). The key to the gun safe is also supposed to be in the bag, but it isn't. The only thing I can figure is: I have a bad habit of having something in my hand, getting distracted to do something else, and setting down whatever was in my hand. The really stupid thing is that the keys are together on the ring that they came on. I'm sure they will show up, but I don't know when. In the meantime, I'm left shooting the cheaper stuff that wasn't in the gun safe, or anything new that I buy, and there won't be much of that. (The X-Five, which I bought after coming back from China, is in the regular safe.) I'm planning another trip to Cabela's tomorrow or Friday, and if they have the bench rest, I'll pick one up.

TMan; Yesterday I was looking for a manuel to one of my Cameras; I looked through two floors of storage cabinets, plastic storage containers, and my regular manuel box until I found it right under my nose on my video shelf. This has happened to me on several occasions. I try to keep organized because in my youth I arrived at a possibilty that as much as 10 % percent of one's life can be spent looking for stuff; In the work place it can be as high as 50 % percent. Hope you find your keys soon.

MLB, I'm ignoring you. ;D
DA, what I do with the cameras is that since I have multiple camera bags (3 Nikon bodies), I keep the respective manual in the camera bag. One of my bags is a back pack and if I use a different body, I religiously swap the bodies and the manuals. There is a lot of crap to forget on the way today's cameras work - especially my Nikon APS body. With out the manual you can really be screwed. I don' t have many problems with the D100 digital because the menu with the LCD are so good. The only thing I had to look up was why I can't preview what I'm going to shoot in the LCD like I can on the Canon Elph. It is because the D100 is a true SLR and the mirror is in the way. Duh!
Working on cars and around the house I always spend more time looking for the tools than I do fixing whatever it is I'm working on. Then I do the famous got something in my hand while looking for something else, set it down somewhere and then go crazy trying to find it. The keys could be in a pants pocket too. The one thing I'm pretty sure of is that they never left the house. Unless they left the house in the trash.
One day my wife lost a diamond bracelet with 10 diamonds on it, they weren't real big, but it was still worth around 5K. We looked all over the house. Years went by. Then when she was out of the country visiting her mother, I did a through cleaning. I took the back off the Laz-Boy Rocker/Recliner vacuumed in there, and then tilted it up on its side to clean the rotating base. Some cards from magazines fell out. I looked up inside and saw quite a few. We were obviously reading magazines while sitting there and the subscription cards had fallen down the side and got lodged. So I thought: might as well pull those out of there. I did and you can probably guess what was trapped in with the cards - the diamond bracelet. That brought tears to my eyes, which of course at my age is beneficial. Hmmm, think I'll clean the Lazy-Boy after I get the yard mowed.
Wow, I looked at the prices on the Ransom Rest. That is one pricey little item, and you have to buy adapters for each gun. I'll go with the Millet.
I'm planning on shooting the Uberti tomorrow. Any idea why its MSRP is so much lower than the others?
