What an incredible find! I think I'm going to dig around in my father-in-law's sock drawer. Well, maybe not.
Very nice pictures. Do you have any plans to take it to the range?

We will probably not fire it. The condition of the weapon, the unit marking, the low serial number, and the fact that all the numbers match mean that if even one small numbered part should break, the pistol's value could be cut in half and potentially even be devalued more. Early Lugers were all handfitted, and each part bears the serial number of the gun. If you have to replace a part, the value is lost. So she's a looker, not a shooter.

The Germans knew the meaning of firepower and saw the pistol as a primary weapon, rather than just a sidearm. Pistols like that one is often found to be heirlooms; I know of a fellow who has one that his grandfather had picked up in WWII. Guns like those are treasures.
