I shot my dad's old Smith and Wesson model 39 in 9mm at the range tonight. What an awesome little pistol. I was suprised by the fact that it was really accurate -- not as much as my Spring 1911 A1 of course, but a lot of fun nonetheless. The safety on it though is in a horrible position. I stripped and cleaned it for him, and left it oiled up. He only shoots it about once every 3 or 4 years and other than that it is in a safe. Any thing else I should do to keep it in good condition? I have never thought about what to do to store a pistol that never gets used. I am worried that I left too much oil in it for one thing.
Thoughts...
Thanks -- TD

I don't think too much oil can hurt for storage. But I would re-clean it and spray it out with Break-Free or something when I brought it out of storage in case it got gummy. But I'm no expert.
