I went to a gun auction with a few guys from work. One of the guys' winning ticket number was called.... he had a choice between a Ka-Bar US Army commemorative knife, or a Ruger New Model Single Six .17hmr. The problem is that he doesn't have a pistol permit, so he was stuck with the knife (which he has no use or need for.) Knowing I have a permit, he asked if I wanted the revolver. I offered him $100 for his winning ticket, and he took it. Here she is... www.nrafoundation.org/friends/ruger.aspIt's a special "NRA edition" that should make it more valuable, I suppose. Anyone have any idea what it's worth? I know the standard one goes for $320-$350 around here. Just curious what the NRA emblems do for its value. BTW, it's a fun little shooter! And for only $100 brand new!

Welcome Back Blackdog; Sounds to me that you were in the right place, at the right time. That is the best $100. dollar investment I could expect anyone to make, the single six will last forever.

Nice work BlackDog! Good to have you back. Hope to hear a range report on the .17hmr. I figured it more of a rifle round. Be interested in hearing how it groups from the Single 6.

Now that you have shot the pistol, the NRA markings will not make any difference in the price. Don't worry though, it was only about $20-30 extra.
When I wanted a MKII for my daughter, I got her the NRA MKII, changed the grips, and we shoot the snot out of it. ;D In my opinion, the NRA markings are a valuable asset for a gun that is given from parent to child.

Thanks, MLB, I don't even have a good excuse why I haven't been around.... just "too busy." I know, I know. Weak. It's definitely a rifle round. In fact, I can't even find pistol bore brushes for it. I have to buy rifle brushes and trim them down so they're not too long (otherwise they don't clear the barrel before I have to reverse direction on them.) It shoots great out of a handgun, though. It's a little early to say, but so far it seems like it groups better than my Buckmark. I haven't even put 100 rounds through it yet, but that's what I've seen so far. I'll post an update later.
Anyway, I didn't think the NRA medallions mattered too much to its value. And besides, if that were the case, then I'd just sell it to buy something that I could shoot. Guns are for shootin'! Unless it's some really rare and valuable collector's piece from a war or something, I plan on shooting it!
