The cost of ammo limits how often I shoot some of my semi-autos, other than my Browning Buckmark which of course fires 22 long rifle. I've seen ads for conversion kits to convert a larger caliber gun into a 22 and that seemed like a good solution for me. How difficult is it to install this type hardware, and how well do t hey work? I have a Ruger 97DC and a Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 ACP that I am thinking about converting. I'm not interested in reloading at this time. Comments appreciated.

The best (most accurate) of the bunch is the Marvel conversion $355, its also a $100 bucks more than some of the others, only the lower rear slide cycles, so the sights don't move great for red dot sights. Its tightly fitted and most users get discussed till its broken in, 400 rds.
The others the whole slide moves, Ciener , kimber , colt .Models are like a std. 1911.

Thanks for the input. I might just try the Kimber conversion kit, assuming it would work best with my Kimber. I am still in the break in period with my Ultra Carry II, and having frequent FTE's. If I still have the problem after reaching 500 rounds, I may send it back to Kimber.

Here is my Marvel on a S/A frame, with a 10 round mag. it is machine rest tested at .750 at 50yds but I was lucky to print a .750 inch at 50ft hand held. There is room for their muzzle brake ,the sight are nice, the barrel is steel pressed into aluminum , the slide is the same with a breech insert. Its is a tight fitting rig img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-6/753931/dsc011081911.JPG
