In order to remain a viable competitor in the business of 44 magnum revolvers, Smith & Wesson added strength to their frames and cylinders, while also extending the underlug of their barrels, to begin their Classic series of N Frames. With Ruger's Redhawk on the market, many were rethinking their options for a double action large bore magnum. These new Classic series of Smith & Wesson revolvers would soon curb production of the flagship Model 29, and bring stainless as a new standard to their lineup of N frame production revolvers. Gone was the era of S&W when model productions remain unchanged; Upon introduction of the Model 29-5 Classic in 1991, the production ended in 1994 with the model 29-6 in 1994. The Model 629 Classic DX is one revolver that performs with excellent balance, smooth trigger operation, and phenominal accuracy. The S&W 29 has gone through many changes during the past decade, and I'm fortunate enough to have been around to obtain a small bit of it's history and presence.

I couldn't be happier with my S&W 629 Classic (5" ). If I were a better handgun shooter, I would feel like I was doing it justice.
I'm considering optics for it at the moment.

The newer N Frames, like the L-Frames, also feature the round butt frames of which I could do better with the squared butt backstraps from the older models, but still, these newer tolerances of the CNC revolvers are still as good as a revolver can get. To add what you have said Fobos; My shooting skills will never match that of what these guns are capable of, but they're a nice compliment to one's shooting pleasure. Oh; one other thing, the newer N and L frames feature the drilled and tapped top straps for scope mounts.
