What do you guys think the most accurate production model 1911 is and what do you guys think the most accurate custom 1911 as a rule of thumb. Reputation wise, and your experience.
Also … what would you say is the most accurate non 1911 gun out there?

TBT; For the most accurate production grade 1911, I can only choose among those that I've shot the most, with my own, and that one would be my Colt Gold Cup National Match or Trophy. My National Match zeroed P.O.A. at 25 yds with less than 1/4 inch groupings from a Millet bench rest. My eyesight is not that good for target distance these days, and takes a few optics to help at distances, but the Trophy will hit about anything I put the front sight on. All Colts and production 1911s will vary, but thanks to CNC, many will be fitted well enough obtain very good accuracy results. Alot depends on the ammunition used also. For a 1911 that recieves special attention from Custom builders, the best I've handled is the Wilson Combat CQB and Protector, not just because of accuracy but handling characteristics of the pistols. For what I think is like putting together a wish book on how I would want a 1911 put together for accuracy. The Springfield HRT was put together, using various parts from other manufacturers, it features a Nowlin Match Barrel, which helped the pistol achieve the accuracy results required in order to be awarded the FBI contract. One of the most accurate non 1911 pistols would be the Sig 210, but it is a Combat Pistol. There are revolvers that can hit small targets over 300 yd. distances, and further out; It depends on the cartridge, as well. Silouette Shooters will know alot more about accuracy in the non 1911 pistols, using certain custom hand loads.

I second the Sig 210 in 9mm , next model 52 S&W in 38 wadcutter . After that a mountain of .22s Rugers, smiths, Euro stuff , hi standards, eastern block / russki stuff, will shoot nice groups. Some we will never see or could afford. As for test barrels / bench test are meaning less if you can't hold the gun stead or take the recoil. ;)Some guns shoot better hand held than bench rest.
