What little I've heard about the Smith PC 945 has been very positive - very accurate, reliable, etc. The only negative is it uses only its own mags, not GI .45 types. Does anyone have one or know anything about it? I think Smith has discontinued it in favor of their 1911 models. TIA

Krusty; I looked one over at the range a few years ago and the found the grip to be a little different than the 1911s, although it appears to share the same design. S&W prefers to use the external extractor on their 1911 style pistols also. With the magazines that I already have, which is shared among six different pistols, I would prefer one which would also comply.
Krusty; I went to the S&W site and found that they were all out of the magazines for the 945, something to seriously consider for a discontinued model. Another thought; The PC 945 was something brought on by the previous ownership at S&W. Since the new owners of took over , the 1911 design seems to have blossomed. This makes sense with the S&W foundry doing forgings for Kimber prior to the change of ownership.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, not being able to get new mags would put me off any gun. I have a good Beretta M-70s .22 w/only one original magazine & I know if it ever breaks I'm screwgied 'cause I haven't seen another .22 mag in like 16 years of looking, lol. OT: For years, I've used the Gun Buyer's Annual 200X Buyer's Guide magazine 'catalog' of all guns from Harris Outdoor Magazines as my informal reference. It's never 100% complete, but it's fairly thorough, generally accurate, & way better than any other inexpensive, non-dealer gun catalog 'zines I've found on the newsstands for 'regular Joe' consumers.
