I read some of the thread entitled "pocket rockets" and still had some questions.
Does anyone have a kel-tec 3AT and what do they think of it? Also, Taurus 85 ultralite vs. S&W 642 airweight for pocket/deep concealment. I am looking for pocket carry only under $400.

Several of the members, three that I know of, 5ontarget, singleaction, and fobos, have the Kel-tec 3AT. From some of his earlier posts, 5ontarget has had a few problems with it relating to extraction.
I have a Taurus 85, and it isn't as concealable as the Kel-tec (sorry, forgot to mention I have the Kel-tec 32, which is just a tad smaller). I don't enjoy shooting the Taurus because of the light weight, the recoil bothers me. (I have a Taurus 608, which I shoot .357 Magnum with no problem.) I've never shot the S&W, but since they are around the same size/weight, I imagine recoil would be fairly close. For carry they fit the bill.
If you've read some of my previous posts, you know that for the most part, I carry a Seacamp in Winchester Silvertip .32ACP, and a Bond Arms .410 double-barrel derringer.
If anyone breaks into the house while I'm in the garage, I'll grab the Kel-tec. I haven't shot a lot of rounds through it, and to be honest, it makes me a little nervous. I don't feel that was about the Taurus, and I know from S&W experience I wouldn't feel that way about them either. If your life depends on it, do you want a question in the back of your mind about the reliability of the weapon?
In stressful situations our brains don't always function as well as they should. I don't like carrying a round chambered in either the P32 or Seacamp, but the revolver - no problem. With the revolver, or derringer, you just pull the trigger. You don't have to remember to rack the slide.

(I have a P32 I carry in a Uncle Mike's #1 pocket holster to keep the trigger covered.) No reliability problems.

No reliability problems. The problem: not enough testosterone. I'm not being logical - it is an emotional thing. I'm just not comfortable with it in my pocket and a round chambered. I bet I'd feel different if I had a holster for it like I do for the others.

I only carry it in my pocket when it's in the pocket holster. I have the clip, but I don't think it's safe to carry that way with a round in the chamber. I slip the clip on the outside of the holster and it does not impede my Wyatt Earp draw!

Somehow the picture of Wyatt Earp with a Kel-Tec 3AT just doesn't seem right...

I have some stuff from him on the 3AT I could forward to you but I'll have to check with him to see if it's OK, first.

Somehow the picture of Wyatt Earp with a Kel-Tec 3AT just doesn't seem right... Since he was reported to frequently hit people over the head with the barrel of the gun, it would be something to see with a Kel-tec. What's that on your forehead - mosquito bite? No, I was pistol-whipped by a guy with a Kel-tec.

I've been out for a couple days. I have a 1st gen 3AT. I had some extractor problems, and didn't shoot the gun much. I recently called customer service (very friendly btw), and the sent me a new extractor. I've installed it and made a couple of changes in the way I shoot it, and put on a homemade rubber hogue slip on grip(cut an old bike tube to fit). I've only put about 50rds through it since, and it only had one malfunction, and that was my fault, I limpwristed it. This gun is very prone to limpwristing, and the malfunctions that come with it. It is a very light gun, with a short barrel/slide, therfore a short cycle, and it has a very small grip. I can get my middle finger and part of my ring finger on the grip. I think a finger rest/mag extender will really help. That is next on my list. It has a pretty snappy/sharp recoil. I doubt I'd put more than 100 rounds through it in a day at the range. We'll see in the up coming weeks. I just received a 1000rds of .380 ball. I really believe a lot of the complaints about this gun's reliability lie in the shooter, not the gun. This is not a gun that most will pick up and shoot well. It takes some practice.
There are a ton of things that people have done to tweak the gun. Trigger pre and overtravel mods, magazine mods, barrel/ramp mods (which I will probably do a some point too), new sights (more of a 3dot system), I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I remember offhand.
