Iam looking at a Star Firestar in 40 cal. I know there not made anymore but as I remember they were good pistols. I mean they don t make my Colt Mustang or my PPK/S [S&W doesn t count] and I still carry them. What ammo works best and what do you think of them for CC.

I read a post somewhere, here it is: www.seark.net/~jlove/firestar40cal.htmAnyway the guy seems to think it likes to gobble up the 180-grain UMC and CCI Blazer (argh!). I think Star made great pistols, in fact, I owned a full-size one myself in .40. It was a Model 31P (P for police) Colt clone, DA-SA all-steel pistol (39 oz. empty). Only reasons I sold it was I was not comfortable with the wide grip (I like single stack) and I wanted something concealable and practical to carry. Its grip was too wide and it was too heavy for carry, for me at least. The Starfire is a whole different story. Once reliability is established (Will owner let you fire it and let a gunsmith look it over?) the only thing you have to worry about is availability of parts. I had the extractor go out on my Star and my gunsmith discovered that the EAA had an extractor that would fit. Pistol worked fine with that part. Can you get spare mags? They were not available for my pistol. Supposedly the Smith and Wesson 59 series would fit, but I never had to do that. I had two that worked but it's not a good feeling that you may have the last two mags in the world for your pistol. I would do some Internet searching for replacement mags before you buy. It's an all steel pistol, about 29 oz., and probably nothing else will go wrong with it. They are certainly very concealable. How much do they want for it? By the way, see what Xavierbreath has to say about Stars under the Handgun Critiques thread...

Silvershadow, I've had several Star handguns in the past, and they were all solid guns. As far as magazines go www.cdnninvestments.com have new factory mags. for the Firestar's in .40 cal. for $18.99. As for other parts, Gun Parts Corporation probably carries parts for the Firestar's.
