I finally had a chance to shoot my new Ruger P95 9mm a couple of days ago. It's the new P95 that Ruger sent me to replace the other P95 that I was haveing trouble with. I tried 2 different loads through it and it functioned 100%. I was shooting offhand at 15 yards, and was getting about 1.5" groups.

Those are tight groups Mountaineer; A co-worker of mine has been with his Ruger P95 ever since I've known him. I've told him about new Sig 220s, for as little as $500., and he flat refuses to show any outside interest in any other pistol except a small Kahr, that he uses for obvious reasons.

;D You made me smile. I have the P90 rather than the P95, but I really do like the gun. I think for the money, Ruger is right on. My other .45s (yes, I know yours is 9mm), the Sig P220 Sport, the Wilson CQB, and the Kimber are wonderful, but they cost far more than the Ruger. I don't like the sloppy fit of the slide on the frame with my Ruger, but I know when I pull the trigger on the Ruger it will go off, the accuracy is pretty good, it will eject, and will properly load the next round. Yup, I'm definitely a Ruger fan, but I did get rid of the ugly grips. Enjoy!!!

TMan, I to have the Ruger P90 stainless with Hogue grips, and also a P85 9mm. I'm also a .45Acp. fan, I have the Ruger P90, Para Ordnance P14, S&W 4506, Norinco 1911A1, and an EAA Witness in 45Acp. The Para Ordnance and the S&W are high dollar guns, but the Ruger P90 is probably the most accurate .45 I have. I have Colt's, Browning's, Sig's, Glock, CZ, S&W's and others, but I think Ruger is the best buy in handguns. I think since Ruger's don't cost as much as Sig's, Glock's, and S&W's etc., people think they're not as good, but I'm not convinced of that.

I really like shooting my P89. I'm the most accurate with it compaired with my other guns. (I've also shot it the most) For some reason people seem to look past Rugers for higher priced guns. Some dealers even shy away from them, calling them "working man's guns." This working man likes his working gun. It works EVERY time. All that being said, I am noticing some uneven wear, hmm I'll have to look into this...

5ontarget, just curious as to what kind of uneven wear, and where on the gun.

I have a P89 and a P944. Both are 100% reliable even when filthy. I had my P944 in my glove compartment for six months and took it to the range last week. It fired flawlessly. You will appreciate the sturdiness of the construction when you field strip one.
The P89, even though it is a little rattly, is very accurate. I picked up a new one (used, never fired) for $250.
I have a Sig, a Beretta, a Glock, a Remington, a Colt AR15, a RRA AR15, a Marlin and the Rugers. The Marlin and the Rugers are the only guns I've never had any kind of malf with, and the Marlin is bolt action.

9mm, I'm curious as to what types of malfunctions you have had on the Sigs. I have a 210-6, 228, 220-Sport, and have never had a failure. Although, I have put more rounds through the Ruger P90 than all the Sigs combined. My P90 is like my old 87 Jetta - it may not be pretty, it may be a little loose, but I know that sucker is going to work. I trust my life to both of them. Hey, just realized that the Ruger isn't German engineered either.

Mountaineer,
I noticed the bluing wearing off on one side of the slide, near the bottom where the slide covers of the guide rod. The frame and slide appear to be rubbing there. No wear on the opposite side. I know ruger isn't known for the tightest fit, but this seems excessive. When/if I send it in, I know ruger will take care of it. As you have testified, their service is great. I'd post a pic, but my camera and computer are not working well together right now.

Hey, just realized that the Ruger isn't German engineered either. None of the guns are malf-prone, they just have had malfs. The SIG 220 had a failure to feed twice--once when new, once after 300 rounds without cleaning. The Rugers never had a malf.

5ontarget, I thought that's what you were going to say. I have a P85 that I've had since 1988 and it has wear in the exact same place, and it happened after the first 200 rounds. It has never gotten any worse, and that is the only place on the gun that has any wear on it, and I've had this gun about 16 years now.

glad to hear it didn't get any worse. My P89 is only a couple years old, and has a few hundred rounds through it. Looking forward to many more years with it. I'll keep an eye on it. If it doesn't get worse, I'll leave it alone. If I see it progressing, I'll send it in. Like that lifetime warantee.
