Found a gun on a website that I want to purchase. I asked the seller what kind of action it had because in one picture I could see an external hammer but in the other 4 I couldn't. His reply was that it was a traditional semi-automatic not at DAO. I'm kind of new to all of this so my question to y'all is this. Is a traditional semi-auto SA/DA??? Thanks, Kim

Kim,
It would probably be best to clear it up with the seller (or find out the model and we could help you out). "Traditional" really doesn't define anything. If I recall correctly, the first semi auto pistols were single action only.
I'd imagine that he is referring to a double action first shot and single action following shots if I had to venture a guess though.
Let us know how you fare.

Kim, I wouldn't buy a gun sight-unseen from a web-site. I've done it, and I've been dissatisfied. I don't know any local stores that have prices as good as the web site I buy from, but there is nothing like seeing, holding, caressing... okay, I'm getting carried away.
I thought there was a particular pistol I really wanted, then I went to a local (well sort of, it was an hours drive) range that rented me the pistol. My response was: sure glad I didn't order that sucker, and it was one that I've heard highly praised.
I've bought my last 3 cars without test driving them, so it isn't just paranoia.

Kim; You can copy the link and paste it here to any internet gun purchases you might have these kind of questions about. "Traditional" can also be defined as "Striker Fired", to some, but speaking for myself it means "Hammer".

Hi Kim. Welcome aboard.
As mentioned above, let us know the make and model of the gun. We'd love to discuss it's pros and cons.

Well I did as suggested and cleared this question up with the seller... I pleaded the dumb woman thing :-) It is SA/DA as I thought. Unfortuately the other advise didn't come in soon enough as I bid on the pistol and it closes in about 20 minutes with me still as the winner. However, I have done my homework on this pistol. I have read every review I can find on the web, I have talked to people in person that own one and I actually held one and played with it at a gun show down in Columbia a few weeks ago. It is the Sig P232 which I have yet to find one person that has anything bad to say about this pistol. The gun is Sig certified used, stainless with night sights. With shipping and transfer fees this pistol is still $100.00 less then what I can purchase it for locally. So I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I win the bid. Thanks again for all your advise. Kim

Kim,
I've fired the SIG 230 which is a similar .380. Less perceived recoil than my PPK/S, and it worked flawlessly.
I'm not sure about the relative height of the bore axis, it's similar if not lower I'd think. The wide grips made it seem to kick less to me.
Nice choice.

Nice pistol. Now I hope you are going to get a holster for it that will keep the trigger guard covered. Don't want it to go off when you yank your keys out of your purse some night!

Still waiting for my pistol, hopefully it will be here tomorrow or Thursday at the very latest. Yes it will definately go into a holster of some sort. I won't be carrying it in my purse until I get my CWP which will be a little while longer. Then I'll have to find a purse big enough for my pistol and the 100 pounds of other junk kept in it :-)
