Was looking at a stainless one the other week. Falling hard, yet again! Is it worth the asking price of $600? It seems like 1911's, no matter the maker, are something of a crapshoot - some get fantastically accurate and reliable guns, and others get finicky jam-o-matics or guns that break a part or two after less than 1000 rounds.

I was on the verge of getting either the Beretta 92FS or the Springfield Amory 1911. I went to a range that rented both and went shooting (had some other guns I rented too). The Springfield was horrible. I couldn't make it through a magazine without at least one jam. I was extremely disappointed, and swore I'd never buy one. (My Ruger P90 has around 2000 rounds and never jammed) Now in all fairness it could be that the Springfield was either dirty (although I didn't notice it) or worn out. I didn't shoot well with the 92FS either, but did very well with the H&K. Needless to say - I bought the H&K. I once shot a friends customized 1911 that he spent over $2000 on. It didn't make it through the magazine without jamming. My impression was: a good 1911 is a "good thing", but the less expensive ones can drive you crazy. I may be a little crazy, but if I am it is Ruger's fault with the 22/45 I once had. If I was in the market for a .45ACP, I wouldn't hesitate - it would be the Sig P220 ST. It just so happens to be that SportingArms.com has them on sale, but it ends at the end of the month. Their price is $649, and includes 3 magazines. www.sportingarms.com/results.asp?mfr_name=33&category_descr=0&subcategory_descr=0&max_price=&keyword_descr=&sale_only=ON&B1=Submit&page_no=1As I've mentioned before on this forum, I have a Wilson CQB, and a P220 Sport. I've let people shoot the 1911 first and then handed them the P220. No one has preferred the 1911 to the Sig. Why not the H&K? Cause the S.O.B. thinks my face is a target to throw brass at Back to the topic: I'm not really a big 1911 fan. I only own two: Wilson and Kimber, and I doubt if I'll ever buy another one. (I'm now into wheel-guns - they never shoot hot brass over the top of your glasses to land on your eye-lid).
