If you go with .44M/.44 Special, you have more choice in bullet weights. According to the charts, if you pick the same bullet weight of 200, at 50 yards the .44 Special is only slightly more powerful than the .45 Colt. The .44M shows a velocity of 1192 vs 940 for the Special and 938 for the Colt. If you are concerned with recoil, (I don't know how big or tough you are; I'm little and a wimp), the .45M has a muzzle energy of 870 vs. 444 for the Colt with the same 200 bullet. Will you be comfortable with the recoil, or will you flinch causing the shot to go low? Personally, I'd still go with the .44M, but there are other factors to consider such as price, quality of revolver, etc. Revised to add: ammoguide.com has all the information you should ever need about ammo. You need to register and if you really want a lot of information, pay an annual fee (I haven't because I don't reload).

I shoot mostly the georgia arms 44 magnum for practice, but they have a Deer Stopper 44 mag. that will get 1209 ft. lbs. of energy, with 1650 fps, using a 200 gr. jhp bullet. These are new cartridges, not reloads. They also have a 300 gr. jsp, that will get you 1041 ft. lbs. of energy, and 1250 fps.

I forgot to mention the price on the G.A. ammo;
The 200 gr. - $16.50 per 50 rds
The 300 gr. - $19.50 per 50 rds www.georgia-arms.com

DoubleAction:
You got enough influence to talk those boys at Georgia Arms into selling .45-90 ammo? I sure like their price on .45-70 . . .

Callahan; If enough shooters put in for the .45-90, They would probably go for it with it in the same way they did with the 460 Rowland and .45 Auto Rim. I asked them about some less expensive 38 Super, but they told me it would be too risky to reload used cases in that caliber because of too many reloaders turning in over pressured cases. If you haven't called them yet, you might call about the possibility of loading some cases up for you. If we had 200 members ordering ammunition from them, our entire forum group would have influence.
