5ontarget; From what I've found, the Springfield 1911-A1 High Capacity Model has been around since 1997, which was also offered in .45 acp with a 10 round capacity, or the 9mm version with a 16 round magzine. The Springfield High Capacity Factory Comp also featured the wide body grip frame, and it was introduced in 1993.

The grip was bigger, but not huge. It felt very manageable. The drawback for me was that the plastic grip seemed out of place (as far as appearance, not location) on the gun.

There are grip makers who manufacture the thin panel grips for the wide body grip frames. The grip screw bushings are not compatible with the standard single stacked 1911, as with the trigger and a few other items. I also like the options available of my 1911s having compatible magazines, with the shorter grip of the Officer's and CQB Compact being the only exception. Grips are not cheap either.

Why don't they list them on their site or anything? Are they still in production? I myself have never seen one.

TBT; Many websites only list their more current selections. Most of the photos I have are in catalogs, so I went to Rob Leatham's site to view a few of his Springfields. Here is one of the high capacity frames for the open class division; He might have a few more. www.robleatham.com/vaultequipuspsaopen.htm

Rob Leatham has an entire Gallery of custom Springfield 1911 pistols that he used in matches. I like his descriptive information on each gun; He stated that the open class pistol in that photo has a trigger breaking under a pound, WOW!!!

tptplayer, TBT
I too searched their webpage, nothing listed. The dealer at the gunshow said it was new, unfired, with a $499 price tag on his table.

I still can't get there myself when I look for it through the front of the site, just by your link DA ... how did you get there? TBT; As I mention before; Some manufacturers only display their more current offerings on their website catalogs. Springfield will have an abreviated suffix in their catalog address for their pistols. www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-hc.shtmlWhere "Production Pistol is abreviated, there will be the -1911, and then the type of 1911. With the High Capacity, it will be "hc", with the Full Size, it will be "fs", and with the Tactical Response Pistol, it will be "trp". You can get deeper into the inventory that way.
