A good companion to my S&W 686 is my S&W 617. This one had some work performed by Jack Weigand of Weigand Combat.

Congradulations on your latest DA. Glad to see you didn't go with the 10 round version like I did. Man that was a mistake: 4 extra chambers to clean. My thought when I bought it was that shooting 10 rounds would be the same as the 10 in the semi-automatics.
Where did you get those grips? What kind of work did you have Jack Weigand do on it?

DA,
Does the 617 have a barrel and a shroud, or is the barrel one unit? While I can see the practicality of the shroud, it just dosen't sit well with me.
Maybe it's because it's too similar to the Crossman 357 pellet gun that I've had forever. It has a barrel with a plastic shroud.
What are your thoughts on this type of construction?

MLB & TMan; The barrel on the 617 is one piece, just like the 686. Weigand did his trigger action package, along with smoothing the sharp edges, tightening up the cylinder to forcing cone gap, replacing the MIM trigger with the cased hardened steel version to match that of the hammer, and added a glass beaded finish. This revolver is one that I had owned last year, which had been involved in a trade with my brother. He traded the gun at the range and I bought it back from them; It has not been fired since trading it to him. A few Weigands from his collection was scouped up by a couple of high end collectors from the city; Rumor had it that one was very interested in this one, so I had to get it back in a hurry. Weigand seldom works on pistolsmithing these days; After making Pistolsmith of the Year and becoming president of the Pistolsmith's Guild a few years ago, his work has become rare finds. TMan; I've never fired anything but six shooters in revolvers, except for my brother's 8 Times performance center 627 and his seven shot 686. The trick to cleaning this rimfire is to avoid abraisive action to the matt finish. If Weigand was still available I would have him apply his work to the 686 for a matched pair. The grips are Hogues; Thanks guys. Oh yeah; I'm not fond of the barrel shrouds; I didn't care too much for the interchangable barrel system Dan Wesson had, using the shrouds. Might be a good notion to some, but not for me. Some company once offered shrouds to fit over standard barrels to give them that weighted PPC appearance, to me it seemed like nothing more than a hundred dollar novelty act.
