Well, I think you got a good deal. Personally, I've never shot a Hi-Point, but I have dry-fired them and wasn't crazy about the trigger feel. Of course I'm not crazy about the Glock's trigger either.
Looks? for that kind of money...
Weight: it kind of depends on how you are going to use it. If it is going to be a carry pistol, then a lighter weight is nicer. If you are just going to use it for plinking and target practice, the more weight, the less you will feel the recoil. I shot a friend's .380 once, and it was one that I had considered buying - the recoil was worse than on any of my .45s. It is no longer on my want list.
So, welcome to the board and you will find a lot of helpful members here. I've learned more from reading the posts and asking a ton of questions than I could have ever learned from reading books.
Also, you are as much a member with a Hi-Point as you would be with a Sig or Wilson Combat or et al.

Good to have you heare Glock19er.
I'd be interested to see an honest review of a Hi-Point. They get trash talked a lot, but mostly by folks that don't have one. ;D
Post a picture when you get a chance...

I've shot the 9mm hi-point, my friend had 2 of them. The one I shot, was not very good. I had to hold the magazine up/in to get it to feed. I got bit once from it, let a nice gash...that wouldn't have happened it I could hold the gun with my normal grip. Jammed a couple times each mag. I shot about 50-75 rds and gave up. The other hi-point went bang every time, no failures/jams of any kind, shot about 300rds that day, and 200-300 more the next day without any problems. Accuracy was ok for combat/defence. Trigger was gritty, stiff, and had some pretty serious staging and stacking as I recall. Definitely not pretty guns, and they felt quite top heavy to me. If you get a good one, they are money well spent, but man the bad ones are the ones that give them the reputation. Sounds like you got one of the good ones.
I've shot the 9mm carbine as well, for $150 it was a fun gun to shoot. Reliable and surprisingly accurate. I'll write a review of it sometime, if people are interested in the carbine.

I don't have one but I have heard very good things about the 9mm carbine. I may pick one up some time.
