Okay, after some moron burned down my favorite indoor range shooting a black powder revolver, I've been wondering: why do people shoot black powder revolvers? Does any one have one? Why did you buy it? Do you shoot it regularly? Is it fun? Is it dangerous if used outdoors? Are there any pitfalls?

Black POWER revolvers? Is that the one where, whenever you shoot it and hit the bullseye, it goes "Right On, Brutha!" Well, I have one (a Traditions revolver based on the Remington .44 - a true cap-and-ball) and even bought all the accessories like black powder and lead balls, the little patches and caps for ignition - but alas, I've never worked up the courage to shoot it. What I'm afraid of is the massive cleanup involved after shooting a black powder firearm. I'm afraid that if I don't do it correctly, I'll have a piece of rusted junk in no time.
