this gun is freakin awesome and the 357sig round is straight up evil. this one owns my face:
1650 fps 550 lb/ft
that will knock the target right on his/her hind quarters
any other owners/fans/people who don't like the gun?

Adam; I do know the feeling. There are days I dedicate to nothing but wreaking havoc at the range with the 357 sig. Not so much for the thunder, but the never ending firepower from the semi-auto. To do the same thing with a revolver I would have to carry about 25 charged speed loaders in .357 magnum, and the speed of delivery would not be as fast as a semi-auto for me. Few other cartrdges brings life into a pistol like the 357 sig.

I'd love to make that kind of noise at the range, I'm just wondering if it would be dwarfed by the sucking sound coming from my wallet! Aren't those rounds pricey?

From georgia-arms, they have the 125 gr. Gold Dot HP on the new starline brass cases, loaded to 1400 fps/ 544 ft. lbs. for $16. @ 50 rds. I bought up a bulk of Federal Premium JHP, Speer Gold Dot, and Triton Hi-Vel for less than half of what I usually pay for reloaded .45 acp ball.

Not being a moderator for this section, I'll defer, but suggest that we move this thread to the more general 'handguns' area as it is not really a 'critique'.

Reactions from the 357 sig: That's the guy with the loud gun Oh Yeah; Your the guy with the loud gun GEESE OH Mighty, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT YOUR SHOOTING!! What caliber are you shooting ?; I'll have to ask you to relocate to the far side of the range; Would that be alright with you? That's Okay; I'll just wait till you get through shooting. What kind of gun is that, anyway? That's a 357 magnum, isn't it ?

This is admitted thread drift but related...
A brave young Marine shot a S&W 629 with a 4" barrel at a recent ICORE match. He was using full magnum loads and this was inside. The other shooters including myself clutched our hearing protection closer and some ran for cover. The sound was impressive!

I always found out that the caliber of the gun speaks louder than the gun itself. Magnum velosities from lightweight compact semi-autos leave many rethinking their primary choice of carry weapons. The shooter experiences less effects from the sound report as that of the bystanders. I've fired .357 and .44 magnums many times indoors, but get worse feedback when I'm standing three feet from someone else shooting a magnum. The shock waves are agonizing to stand next to, even with inner plugs and outer muffs.

The OUTDOOR range I went to this past week has a sign that says: NO MAGNUMS and NO .357 SIGS. It is out in the middle of nowhere so I guess it is for the benefit of the shooter standing next to you. I remember someone on this forum once saying that they got sick to their stomach because of someone shooting a .44 Magnum next to them (inner ear effect I guess).

I'd find another range. I feel that it's the shooter's responsibility to protect their hearing, not quiet everyone elses reports to your comfort level.

That may be true, but.....
I once went to the range where it's outdoor and up in the mountains, so there's no homes or businesses anywhere nearby. Anyway, the people (actually, a group of three teenage-looking folks) setting up next to me must've been shooting a Magnum rifle because while I was well insulated from the sound (wearing plugs and muffs) the shock wave hit me like a mild bat to the stomach every time.
Fortunately, I think even they could only stand about 50 round of it before they quit and retired to a milder gun and cartridge - this time a Springfield 30-06! ;D

A friend brought an Armalite AR-50 to the range a few months back. I was standing one bench over when he shot it. My whole body was washed with hot air and I was forced to close my eyes, despite wearing safety glasses. The shock wave jarred my whole body.
That's when I knew I had to have me one of those. ;D

What ammo are you using? Most of the ammo I use is 1350-1400fps. Federal & Winchester Sure do like to shoot it. I was at an outdoor range and one of the rangemasters (not currently working) was shooting a .45 next to me. He kept looking over at me, and my target. Finally said, "Those look like 9mm holes in your target, but that gun is awfully loud for a 9." Then I told him what I was shooting, and he "had to try it" He enjoyed it, but said he'd stick to his .45.

actually it's 1600 fps and 568 ft-lbs on a 100 grain cor-bon powerball. that's the rating anyway. i'm no physics genius but i think that will mess you up real bad deef What ammo are you using?
