I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the General Board, but since it is directly about handguns... In case you haven't seen it, the February 05 edition of Field & Stream has their picks of the 50 Best Guns. In there are listed a few handguns, and I'll list them below along with their ranking. If you want to read their reasoning, buy the magazine. ;D 5 - S&W 29 (DA, don't you dare say "I told you so") 9- Remington XP-100 Modified to add: 15 Smith & Wesson Model 500. This was in a side-bar complete with pictures, and I missed it on the first reading. (Got to make an appointment with my eye doctor.)20- S&W "Triple Lock" or officially called the .44 Hand Ejector First Model. 22 - Ruger Mark I (Yeah ) 27 - Ruger Single-Six 31 - Thompson/Center Contender Pistol 38 - Ruger Blackhawk 44 - Freedom Arms Model 83 And the worst: 1) MBA Gyrojet Mark I Model B Price wasn't a consideration i.e. it wasn't a Consumer's Report Best Buy ranking. In case you are wondering why in the middle of February I'm finally getting around to reading the February edition of Field & Stream - it's because I've been too busy shooting!!! (Okay, I can't lie - it is because my wife has had me too busy doing housework)

TMan; I assume the list included those handguns that have also been discontinued and graded upon the merit of their contributive qualities among outdoor sportsmen. Most serious handgun lists would be incomplete without a few Smith & Wesson and Ruger Magnums, unless it was published by one of those GQ high vain fish wrappers for the beautiful guy who never carried anything but a pager on his belt. ;D

Maybe I didn't make it clear. The list had 50 guns, but the only handguns were the ones that I showed. The Ruger Blackhawk is a Magnum. Also, I thought the 29 was a Magnum too - I know the 629 is.

TMan; The list is clear and, although only partial, you did include the Magnums, which no serious handgun list should fail to mention, especially from Field and Stream. All publications geared toward the male population in this country should endorse the birth right of the second ammendment, not just outdoor sportsmen or firearm publications. I know the others advertise men's cologne, sports cars, bikes, computers, clothes, jewelry, luggage, brokerage firms, entertainment, resorts, home theater systems, sunglasses, toiletries, health products, but not one single mention of a firearms manufacturer or holster maker. Our population in this country needs to be recognized in the Main - Stream with a list of the 50 most popular handguns being available to every household on the network evening news. By the way; What else was on the complete list of 50 ?

Well number 1 was the Winchester Model 70 (pre-1964) 2) Mauser Model 98 3) Winchester 12 4) Remington Model 1100 6) Winchester Model 94 7) Remington Model 700 etc. I'm not sure that I should list them all because that could border on copyright infringement.
Concerning ads in the magazine, just as a point of interest since it is "Field & Stream", we start of with Nissan Trucks; CITI (credit cards);Copenhagen (tobacco); Leupold (finally something hunting related); Toyota Trucks; Go RVing.com; Ford trucks; Craftsman tools; Celebrex; Wendy's; Kodiak (tobacco); The Bradford Exchange; Yamaha; Evan Williams (Whiskey - really good for firearms handling); Plavix; The Outdoor Channel (Okay);Lectric Shave; CMP (very good); Philip Morris; Ontario Canada (Okay); Jack Daniels (could use some about now); Grizzly (tobacco); Canadian Mist (foreign whiskey - not my favorite); Lupron Settlement (d**n class action lawyers); Espn Outdoors (Yeah); FOX SPORTS NET (Alright); Shakespear Supreme (fishing line); Sildenaflex "works in 30 minutes - lasts 6 to 8 hours" (Wow, if they had that years ago, I'd probably still be married to my first wife.); Rosetta Stone (language Learning)
Why are you still reading this? Get a life!!! ;D
My point is this: DA, how can you complain about not being mentioned in other magazines, when magazines like Field Stream did not contain one major advertisment from a gun manufacturer.

I'm not complaining about Field & Stream; I just feel that all the news concerning firearms is only limited to particular publications which cater to the subject. The single source of information on firearms for main stream America is found through what they view in the movies or television screen, unless they ask a cop friend. When Sigarms was awarded the Homeland security contract, we did not hear that on the evening news. Publications like Field and Stream is commendable in catering to the real world of the outdoor sportsman, rather than depicting those with a higher social agenda, among the publications geared toward men. In my round about, rambling way, I wish all publications devoted to the interest of men would be so bold as to mention the subject of firearms in a positive context. I mean all Men's magazines.
