I finally got to the range tonight with the "new" Sig P239. I took a friend along who's never really shot before so that made it fun as well. I had 50 rds of WWB (125gr) and 50 rds of Sellier & Bellot (140gr). I also shot 10 rnds of the Winchester Ranger that I got with the gun. Although it was only a 110rd trial it performed flawlessly. Even with my friend shooting for the first time he had no limp-wristing stovepipes. I doubt I have enough experience yet to notice the difference between the types of ammo but the only obvious difference was the enormously bright muzzle flash from the Ranger ammo. I thought I had read that the S&B had a greater muzzle flash but it really appeared to be about the same as the WWB.
Although I shot well (for me) I tended to be a bit high and my friend shot a bit low so I bet the Sig shoot perfectly straight. Not much of a "range report" so my apologies for that, but we both had a great time and I couldn't be more pleased with my .357Sig. Now I just need to get my Canned Heat so I don't go broke. The percieved recoil was perfectly reasonable and controllable. The Hogue wrap-around grip makes an enormous difference I'm sure. The guys in the next lane were quite impessed with the "boom" and the muzzzle flash..."Is that a .45??". Apparently they'd never seen a .357Sig before.
Now that I'm up-and-running I'm sure I'll be full of questions...help with sight picture/control and cleaning and ammuntion, etc.
BTW, it was a nearby indoor range in Westland, MI that is just a few miles from my house. It's owned and operated by current and retired LEO's. $14/hr + $7 for a second shooter on the same lane. Add that to the almost $30 I spent on the ammo (purchased at Cabelas, not the range) and it was a $50-1hr outing. I'm not complaining, just reporting.
