Hello all, i'm a newbie to this site as well as handgun ownership. I'm looking for suggestions for a compact or ultracompack 45 to CC. Mid range price (500). I presently have a full size Taurus 945 which is a pain to CC, but i do like the gun in general. Thanks to all. Vaporizer

Welcome to the forum, Vaporizer! If you like Tauruses, you may want to check out their new 24/7. It represents the newest they have to offer in pistol technology. The April Gun Tests magazine test rated it a an excellent "combat pistol." They liked it better than the PT 945 and the Ruger P345. It holds 12+1 rounds of 45 ACP. They said with a grip that slim, there was no need to go to a .45 GAP pistol. The only down side they had to it was the trigger pull. They said it would be best owned by someone who carried it all the time and was very familiar with it. They said the trigger was kind of like a Kahr but with multi-hit capability. Unloaded weight is 27 ounces. They say the MSRP is $578, which means the real world price would easily qualify it for your price range. You could also find a used Sig P220 in that neighborhood. Myself, I like 'em smaller for carry, which generally rules out 40s and 45s. My "big gun" is a Sig P239 in .40 and .357 Sig.

Ultracompact 45's are hard to come by. I wonder what the smallest 45 is? I know Para makes a pretty small 45 for carry (the Para Carry, loosely based on the 1911), but it's a bit pricey. Not sure if you can get one for $500. Maybe used.
S&W makes the SW99 chambered in 45 (http://www.firearms.smith-wesson.com/store/index.php3?cat=293590&item=831453&sw_activeTab=1), it's smaller, but not many are really "compact", IMO.

ML, I think that Para calls that model the "Warthog," if memory serves me correctly. That probably is the smallest 45 in a 1911 style. Kimber makes an ultra carry that is almost as small.
Can't think right now who makes the smallest non-1911. Glock may be in the running for that. Don't think Kahr makes .45s.

The Warthog, that's it. Thanks Callahan.
I was looking at the compact version of the SW99. The full size is available in .45, but the compact is only .40 and 9mm. Looks like the Glock is the smallest.
