Okay, is this the real deal or is it another Beretta Stampede color cased phony? The gun is Ruger's new "Color Cased Blue New Vaquaro". Specifications are at: www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=5106&return=YIn the picture it looks more like the real deal than the Beretta Stampede. Here is a picture of the Beretta Deluxe in case you missed it: Actually this shows it a little better: Sure glad my Stampede is: Actually I think the Ruger looks a lot like the Colt, which I can't show because their web site is kaput. Oh, I really like this feature: "Reverse indexing cylinder pawl which positively aligns the cylinder with the loading gate for faster loading and unloading". That is the bigest complaint I have about the Blackhawk. It isn't easy for me to unload/load.

I don't know if it's live or memorex, but it looks better than the beretta, IMO.

I think I'll take the Ruger with the Beretta grips.
Aside from the info gleaned from your very enlightening and informative discussion with DA recently on the topic, I couldn't say one way or the other. But from a practical standpoint, it seems as if the lack of the term "hardened", and the fact that most of Ruger's customers wouldn't know the difference anyway, would lead me to believe that its just a coloring.
Regardless, it's very nice looking. I'd prefer either a case colored, or a nickel plated finish. The stainless seems to me like more of a carry/practical finish and seems out of place on a show piece. (That, and they didn't have stainless steel then ;D )

... I'd prefer either a case colored, or a nickel plated finish. ... Hey, I agree with you. I only have one gun in nickle and that is my Beretta Stampede. I'm a little concerned about how well the plating will hold up, but it sure looks great. I know, I know, looks shouldn't matter, but if they didn't, we would all be married to ugly women. ;D I ordered the Ruger with 5 1/2" barrel. From my dealer it was only $419, which seems like a pretty good deal. I'll probably do a trigger job on it prior to shooting it, unless of course it doesn't need one. The bad news is: it is back-ordered so no telling when I'll get it.

In the grocery store yesterday I noticed the June/July copy of Guns & Ammo Handguns, and on the front cover it had "Ruger's New Vaquero". Slipped that right into the shopping cart (paid for under the grocery budget ;D).
The author had pictures of his and I've got to admit: I really like the looks of it. If it is fake color cased hardening color, then they have really got it down cold.
Looking at the pictures, I noticed that it doesn't have the emblem on the bottom of the grips like the Colt does. Since I don't like the feeling of the Colt rolling up in my hand because of the emblem, I think Ruger solved that problem too.
The author mentioned that it has a wider trigger than the Colt, which helps with the trigger pull.
I'm thinking this one is going to be very high on my want list. I just wish the grocery store sold handguns so it could come out of a different budget.

TMan; I think you will like shooting the Ruger, but it's difficult to tell with the variety of guns you've collected. Good that they solved the loading issue with the cowboy action shooters; That is the one thing I dislike about the Rugers. Although the Vaquero is cased colored, rather than color cased hardened, it is still a very nice looking revolver. I have a couple of images of mine in the single action revolver gallery.
