A friend of mine, and I were shooting recently. We set targets out at 7, 25, and 50yds. My groups were better at 7, and about the same at 25, but his were better at 50. I thought this was odd, we changed guns, with similar results. I tried shooting my 357sig, thinking that it’d give me some advantage with its flatter trajectory. I improved some, but not as much as I’d hoped. Another oddity, he doesn’t see distances nearly as well as I do. We later switched to rifles, and I shot better at 50, and he better at 25. Other than some freak occurance, can anyone think of how/why this would be?
Why were we shooting handguns at 50yds? Because we wanted to, Because we can, Because we thought it’d be fun. And it was pretty fun to see what we could hit offhand at 50yds. You know things like ping-pong balls & silver dollars...just kidding. More like sillouhettes

Handguns at 50 yards... gol dang show-offs!
I think your results may have had to do with the positioning of the planets. That is the only logical thing I can come up with. If it were the sights being off, POA would not equal POI, but to get tighter groups at the further distance? It doesn't make sense.

Well, let me clarify...groups at 50yds does sound a bit misleading. He had more hits that were closer together than mine. His "group" at 50yds wasn't tighter than his at 25. His 50yd "group"/cluster/hits were closer together than mine. Our targets were about 20"X20" with hits pretty well scattered on them. Most, but not all hits were on the paper. His just seemed to be a bit more localized than mine.
I never shot a handgun at that distance before. To be honest, I was suprised to see that I even hit the paper.

Tman,
You're 460xvr "...was designed to be flat-shooting with a big-game perimeter of 250 yards--assuming a 10-inch kill circle and a mass of body hold."
I think I'd need a 10ft kill circle at 250yds.

I can see the fun in shooting at 50 yds., but I'm usually limited to 25 at the indoor range, my eyesight, and the large iron sights on most of my handguns. My targets are usually 5" or 6" inches for the 25 yd. mark, which almost disappear in the dim lighting conditions but I go for it anyway. Dungeon shooting would be more of a challenge if we could turn off all the lights, except one dim light on the target, and use our tritiums; That would be for some good night fire practice.
