I'm chicken. I just think since TSA is able to search through our luggage the probability of opening my suitcase and finding the lock-box containing my gun is very low.
I've wanted to take one of my guns to Atlanta to go shoot with my son-in-law. Normally I rent a gun. He shoots his Glock. Last time I lucked out because the 1911 I rented was a good one.
I just think that sub-consciously knowing that his father-in-law is a good shot, may give him pause when dealing with my daughter. ;D Sometimes she acts like her mother. Of course were he to shoot her when she was acting like that would be justifiable homicide.

TMan; I know it would be kind of pricey, but have you given thought to sending your pistol ups air to your son in law's address before your trip, and having your son in law ship it back to you after your return trip ?

No, I hadn't thought of that. Is it legal since he doesn't have a FFL?

TMan; You don't have to have a FFL to mail it, and when a FFL sents it back to your home, you don't have to have a FFL to recieve it. Laws can change on this, but UPS Overnight was the last known method I have knowledge of in transporting firearms through the mail system. You can also call UPS about any updates.

Here in Canada we are allowed to carry our firearms in the trunk with a trigger lock on them and in a locked case to and from the gunclub. We have a ATT which is the travel document we must aquire to do so. In order to obtain either a long gun or sidearm we must take a 3 day course to start called a PAL and a extra day for the handgun course afterwards. WE then watch you shoot for at least 3 sessions to verify your safety is spot on or else. After you join a gunclub you may then purchase a handgun. If I was going to travel out west from where I live or east for that matter I could ship my shooter thru the post office if I wish to. I can also obtain a invite from another club in Canada and carry it in my trunk like normal as well. Same I believe for both long gun and handgun as well.
