I'm still deciding on my first civilian owned pistol, I'm down to a SA Mil-Spec 1911 or a CZ97B...but thats a different thread. In my research over the past few months I stumbled across the occasional pistol with the magazine forward of the trigger (ex. Mauser Broomhandle). And there are a couple of target models (ex. Hammerli 280).
I have read that having the magazine forward like that improves the overall balance and lessens felt recoil by having an internal slide (ex. the classic Luger). Now I understand that a Hammerli would make a fairly poor concealed carry pistol, but if the balance and all that is so much improved then why aren't there more of that style in production? Not all handguns are designed for concealing under a shirt (ex. Desert Eagle). Some of us might just want one for home defense or target practice.
Who do I have to bribe to get a .45acp Hammerli? ;D

JC; I've always wanted one of the rapid fire Hammerlis or for a little less, the Pardini pistols were once a good buy. Some Olympic shooters were using the Pardini. Some of these type of target pistols have electronic triggers that are so light, I've heard one person tell of a small breeze of wind setting the trigger off. One option would be to look at one of the Ar-15 type pistols chambered in the .45 acp. I'll look around later to see if I can find a larger caliber with a front loading magazine. Wow; I didn't know those Benellis had such large photo images. Check Out Benelli
