I said I would never get another nickel handgun again, but I am weak. You do have to be more careful when cleaning them and they show every smudge and finger print, but nickel sure is beautiful when it is cleaned up. Model 27-2, 3 1/2" barrel, 1972 vintage. Model 586 no dash, no "M" stamp, 4" barrel, ~ 1980 vintage. Possibly a first year of production example.

Thanks DA, I may be sending them to you when it comes time to clean the cylinder face. ;D You've done much better than I have with the nickel.

TA; Better be prepard to get you jeweler's lupe out on that cylinder nickeled face, along with the lead remover cloth. Got to be real delicate using that lead remover on nickel. I would not not even chance on Blued guns.

I have a magnifying lamp that I use to work on detail. It should prove helpful in this task.

TA; I've used the medical magnifying lamps to remove splitters from underneath my finger nails, and one with the adjustable arm would be excellent to have on my shop table; That is one great idea. Started off with a thread on two S&W revolvers and, after only five messages, had another helpful idea surface. Thanks TA.

You keep putting the ball up there...
So what kind of kinky things are you into DA where you get splinters under your fingernails?

Here is the one I use. It is on sale at www.harborfreight.com for $30.00. I originally got it to aid in metal checkering. When you get finer than ~20 LPI, I find it difficult to see what I am doing. If you cross the diamonds in metal, it is really difficult to impossible to correct. Wood is a little more forgiving and I usually checker in the 16-20 LPI range. I find I use this lamp quite often for inspecting my guns. Well worth $30. Item # 34018-3VGA

You keep putting the ball up there... So what kind of kinky things are you into DA where you get splinters under your fingernails? TMan; The wood bench in the Locker Room, where I once worked, would become worn down laying wet towels down. This created a fine splittery surface where I would often lay my keys or loose change. When I went to pick up retrieve these items with my fingers, well, spitters often became scooped up. It often reminded me of the old "bamboo between the finger nail torture". ............................................................... Thanks Again TA; That is an incredible price on that, and just the right one. I might need to post a thread on this lamp of your's to bring attention to it.
