Looking for a pistol which chambers either the .40 S&W, in an alloy frame, with the strength to handle the 357 sig. Don't know yet if I'll go to a polymer frame pistol.

A lot depends on what you need it for. If it is strictly a defensive pistol, will it be carried a lot, do you have a high probablility that you will use it defensively. There are a lot of things to consider.

The first alloy pistol line that came to mind is sig.
Polymer guns will also handle the 357sig.
If you go the route of 357sig, you can also get .40 and 9mm conversion barrels for it and shoot cheaper, lighter recoiling ammo if you want.

Thank You; I've been giving some thought to either the P-229 or the p-239. I've had a P-220 for several years and I'm growing tired of trying to conceal it during the summer. I read somewhere about the Sigs having trouble feeding the flat point bullets in the .40 S&W. I surely doubt that I'lll be using flat points for defensive carry.

I remember hearing about some model of SIG having issues with the flat nosed rounds. I think DA posted something here somewhere...

I found some good reads on the Sig p239 with the 357 sig cartridge. That bullet flat out screams out of that little pistol. Seems like alot of thunder coming out of such a short barrel length on a semi-auto, especially one with an alloy frame.
