I was at the local range this AM and by design, you have to walk the full length of the counter to get to the register to pay for range time. I make the mandatory walk eyeing the new and used guns. In the far side of the used case I spy a bumper to a 1948 Lincoln, no wait it was a S&W460. It dwarfed the 6" 686 right next to it. One of the workers there knows me pretty well and always asks if I'd like to handle anything. He knows I seldom buy, and there were no other customers in the whole place, so I didn't feel bad about it. Everything Tman said about the 460 is true. (not that we'd expect him to lie) The DA trigger was smooth and suprisingly light, and the SA was really outstanding. It pointed nicely, although I don't think I could hold steady for very long. Being a good salesman, he kept asking if I'd like to buy it. Well, of course I'd LIKE to buy it. I'd like to get it for free even more, but that didn't happen, and neither did the sale. The price was a bit too high for me. I see why you enjoy yours so much, Tman.
I also got to briefly try one of their simulators. That was pretty cool too. They also have a live fire simulator that I'll have to try sometime this year. I got some "free" time with the purchase of a membership. Oh that reminds me, I also got a "free" rental. Might be time to rent that Kimber 1911 I've had my eye on.

Well, I'm glad you at least got to hold it, but it would be better to shoot it. It is a big revolver, and I expected a lot of recoil, but I was very surprised that it didn't have that. As I previously mentioned, I first shot it with 454 Casull, but then when the S&W 460 Magnum ammo became available, I expected a lot of recoil, but again didn't get it.
I own a lot of stuff, and some of it is kind of weird, but nothing has impressed me as much as the 460 did. (Well, the Swiss K31 with its bolt locking impressed me quite a bit too, but didn't bring the sheer elation that the 460 did.)

After holding it, I'd really like to shoot one, but I doubt that the 460 will ever make it into the rental counter, and I've never seen anyone shooting one to ask. The rentals are pretty much all tacticool pistols, and a couple of 1911's. Well for $900-1200 I could own one and try it out. I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed.

Good Grief 5OT, your current number of posts is 666 and it is 06/06/06 or 6/6/6. Make another post before someone thinks you are the Anti-Christ. ;D
I don't think the 460 is designed to have thousands of rounds fired through it. So, you are right, it isn't likely to be a rental. Also, it is quite loud.

geez, that's eerie. Consider this post 667.
I remember about 2 years ago my family was "dining" at a fine fast food eatery and the bill was $6.66, my wife asked if they would take an extra penny. Nope, that throws the register balance off, can't do that. Ended up adding an ice cream cone to the order.
