I bought a Like New S&W 5946 9mm pistol about 2 weeks ago from CDNN Investments for $279.99 + $13.49 shipping. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I really like the way my 5906 shoots. I tried to post the picture here but it didn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

The picture has to be hosted somewhere on the web. Anyone can use www.tinypic.com and it will produce the tags needed to paste here. For example: The way I did this was to make a copy from the picture on the S&W web-site as a JPG on my machine. I then uploaded it to www.tinypic.com by giving them the address of the file on my machine. It then produced an address that I pasted into my post here. Here is an portion of the screen shot. The highlighted area is what you need to paste into your post. The text I pasted to get the picture of the gun (minus the ") was: ["IMG]http://i5.tinypic.com/140at76.jpg[/IMG"]

Mountaineer; If you right click the properties of any photos posted on the forum, you will see the url address where the photos are stored. When posting the address, an img bracket should be posted before the photo and a /img with brackets should follow the photo url address. I use village photos, some use Photo Bucket, and Others use the one TMan mentioned. One fast easy method is to create an album on our MSN Group and paste the url address to your album or photo here. handgunforum.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&n=1&thread=217

Mountaineeer; At the bottom of this message you will see in my signature "My Handgun Photos", this is where I keep my album pages for my photos which I compress prior to moving them over to Village Photos. If you want, I can open an album page for you on the group pages and add the hyper link in your signature.

TMan and DA thanks for the info. I used ImageShack to host my photo, but it didn't work for me here, but I was able to post at a couple of other sites. I'm going to give it another try. Thanks.

Mountaineer; If you right click an image you will find it's Dimensions. For most forums the dimension for a photo will be around 600 x 400, or close to it. To make things really simple you can compress the photo by using your own image software on your computer and store it in a file before moving it to the image host, you can upload the images on the group site and save those auto compressed images in a file to be uploaded to the host, or your can let the image host compress the image.

I think I finally got it right DA ;D Thanks for the help, I may take you up on the album project sometime. I haven't posted in quite a while up until today. I started a new job about 5 months ago and my Mom was diagnosised with 2 types of cancer back in December 2005, and we've been fighting it ever since. I've been stressed to the max for several months now and coming to the forums and checking things out most every day is some enjoyment and stress relief for me.

I'm very sorry to hear about your Mother, I hope she gets through it all. It took me a while to get the hang of posting pictures, storing them, and getting into the digital picture taking.
Nice looking S&W; It would be a bold jesture on my part to undertake a massive collection to where I could have a specimen of every pistol I became attracted to. I would also be compelled to bulk up on more holsters and magazines to accomodate the many different models.

Mountaineer, if you are running Microsoft XP, then there is a tool called "Image Resizer" that is part of the Microsoft XP Power Tools: www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspxThe tools are listed along the right-hand side of the page. If you scroll down you will see the Image Resizer. Once you install it on your system, when you right-click on an image, it gives you options for easily reducing the size. I do it all the time for sending pictures to my Aunt, who has a 800x600 screen and my Nikon takes 3008x2000 as a default. Speaking of Aunts: I have another Aunt that had the worse kind of uterine cancer that had spread and caused tumors on the abdomen that were inoperable. She went the chemo route, but it didn't shrink the tumors. My sister-in-law, who is an RN and worked in hospice told me she didn't have long to live so I had better go up to see her. She looked like death warmed over. Clearly she wasn't going to last much longer. She is a very religious lady, and I think she graduated from a Pentecostal college somewhere. Well, she went to church, had her pastor pray for her, and told me she "had faith that God would heal her". That was 11 years ago. She still makes the best rhubarb pies I've ever had.

TMan, I do have Windows XP, not professional just the home edition. If it wasn't for my faith in God I couldn't and wouldn't want to live a day on this earth. I hope that my faith is strong enough for me and my Mom as she fights this disease as well as her depression and anxiety. I know with God, all things are possible. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

What's the difference between the 5906 and 5946? Is it the 46 has a bobbed hammer, or hammerless? Smith and Wesson and Kimber seem to have a competition going for the number of different models offered with similar names/numbers.
Looking at your pics on 3rd Gen, you seem to have a thing going for S&W semis. I've never shot one, and heard mixed reviews on them (like every other gun I've read about). None of the area dealers stock them, and I think I've only seen a couple at the area gun shows. Mostly I see the Sigma.... What was it/how did you get turned onto them?

5ontarget the 5946 is a double action only. Other than that they are pretty much the same gun, weight wise, material, magazine capacity etc. I've always loved the looks of the 3rd Generation all stainless S&W's but I never could afford a new one. New most of these guns are around $700 or more MSRP. I've just hunted around for one at the right price and acquired them when I could. I just love the way they look and feel.

I'd imagine the magazines are interchangable (within the same caliber that is.) That's got to be nice.

MLB they do use the same magazines, and not only that, but I also have a Marlin Camp Carbine which also uses the same magazines.

Thanks for the link to the image resizer TMan. Much simpler than the photo editing software method.
