I just picked up this P228. It is a 1989 vintage, West German made, imported by Sig in Herndon, VA. The factory used to be there before moving to Exeter, NH ~1990 or so. This is a grade one CPO or Certified Pre-Owned. It goes through the factory for a going over, then turned loose with a 1 year warranty. The German guns are serialized 3 times. The barrel, frame and slide. All 3 match and the barrel has very little wear suggesting it was fired very little. I haven't had the opportunity to fire it yet. Many claim that this is the best balanced Sig made.

TA, the P228 was the first Sig that I bought. I've pretty much forgotten about it. However, shooting it gave me an acquired taste for Sig Sauer pistols. DANGER
I've bought a lot of Sigs since then.
I did replace the 228 recoil spring rod with one that has mercury in it to try to reduce the recoil. This was in my recoil sensitive period - prior to the 460 XVR and Bond Arms pistols. Now when a gun kicks the snot out of me, I just smile.
CheaperthanDirt had a special sale where they were selling Sigs at their cost. Of course I missed the sale. The next month I was looking at the 228 and the salesman (who sold me the Wilson CQB) asked me if I wanted him to look in the back to see if there were any 228's left with the sale price. Yes, and yes.
P.S. Your deck is checking and needs repainting. ;D

The F.B.I. was issued the P-228, along with other federal agencies; concealed carry version of the P-226.
