I was planning on heading out to the range a few days ago when I had a TMan moment. That is, I remembered that I had some gun stuff that I forgot that I bought. ;D I picked up a weaver mount for the Ruger Mark II a little while ago in anticipation of the reflex red dot sight I intend to purchace someday. I forgot that quite a while ago I won a cheap red dot sight on eBay for $30. It is of poor quality (what do you expect for $30), and I shelved it. So I clamped it down and out to the range I went. After a bit of tuning, I managed to get my 25yd groupings down to about 1 3/4" off of a sandbag with cheap ammo. Not that impressive for a target handgun rested, but it was fun. Aside from saying that I could hit a tin can most of the time, we will not discuss my off hand groupings I'm thinking that with a good Halo sight and quality ammo, this might just be my new setup for this handgun.

I'm that way about hunting equipment. Sometimes it almost like Christmas when I get stuff out for the season and rediscover the stuff I bought during the year that I had forgotten about. I guess that's partly because so much of that gear goes on sale in January that I've forgotten about it by Sept.-Oct.
I saw over on Xavierthoughts that he expects the Ruger Mark II to become a collectible...

Sort of like the "pre-lock" Smiths, or "pre 63" Winchester 94 leverguns eh? Change isn't always for the better. There are so many Ruger Mark II's though. I'll have to stop by there and see what he has to say. It's been a while.

Speaking of collectable: no, not me!! the Jennings. I saw a nickle-plated one at a local gunshop, one I'd never been in before, and he wanted $125 for it. That must mean than my engraved nickle-plated one one must be worth at least $200.
I'm not wild about any of the red-dot scopes. If I'm shooting off sandbags, I want a scope that lets me see the target better. If I'm shooting off-hand I'll see the red dot dancing all over the target, which when it finally crosses the bullseye, I get excited and jerk the trigger.
What I do find red-dot's useful for is for pistols that you can't see the sights well on. My Beretta 87 Target is very difficult for me to see the front sight. It has a red-dot on it.
Yes MLB, I do have some red-dots laying around that I've never used.

OK, I admit it. I'm an easy sell for gun stuff.
Thanks to a missed field goal attempt during the big game, I found myself in possession of some unplanned disposable (hah! right.) income.
Really, I hadn't planned on stopping into the Buffalo Gun Center. A pal of mine needed to stop by there at lunchtime yesterday. Twist my arm. Still no Walther P5C. Ah well. They did have quite a selection of reflex sights though.
Short story is I found one at a reasonable price, and bolted it on the Ruger last night after cleaning it. (Yep, I was bad and didn't clean it right away.) I did notice that the weaver rail was loose. That certainly didn't help my groupings. A bit of loctite should remedy that.
It looks much better than that big 'ol can of a red dot I had on there. I'll try to get some pics this weekend. Maybe I will be able to report some more respectable groups too. ;D

Please pardon my limited ability with the camera. I can never get the lighting right. I'm considering removing the length of weaver rail that sticks out beyond the reciever. I don't have any plans on putting a larger scope on this, and I think it would look better that way.
