A coworker of mine is interested in a blackpowder handgun and asked me if a permit is required in NYS. I hadn't thought about it, and I'll look it up, but does any one have any info on this? I'd imagine that you still need a permit for it.

ML; I have never ordered or bought any black powder guns but I have noticed that no FFL was required when ordering the guns through the catalogs of Cabelas or Sportman's Adventure. Carrying any handgun without a permit is asking for trouble, unless one is on private or hunting land. Your co-worker would be much wiser to obtain a permit if he has any doubts.

I was getting quite interested in Blackpower guns at one point having listened to my cousin, who uses one for deer hunting (on his own land).
Then at the range one day there was a guy shooting one. I don't know if all that he was doing was normal, but it was a lot of effort, which I dont' mind, but it had a very bad smell, which I do mind.
No Blackpowder for TMan.

Well, I haven't found any exception for blackpowder handguns in NYS. I plan on stopping into the local shop though, and the acid test will be if they'd sell me one without a permit.
