Am I crazy? If so, I drove myself that way, but let me explain:
1) Last week I was talking to Becky ( www.sportingarms.com ), and mentioned to her that about the only gun that I don't have that I would like is the Ruger Alaskan in 454 Casull. She told me that she had checked on it and it was no longer available. Shoot, I should have bought it a long time ago when it was available.
2) Yesterday in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram was a full page ad for Alpine Shooting Range. It said they were having FN days on Sept 14-15-16. For $15 you get to shoot 10 rounds through 4 different FN guns: PS-90, FS-2000, FNP-9 and Five-Seven USG.
3) Having never been there before, I got lost. I was on Route 287 and I should have been on Route 287 "BR". What the $%#@ is "BR"? I've since concluded it stands for "Business Route".
4) While sitting on the side of the road, having exited, a TX DOT worker volunteered to get me to the right road. With his help, I found the range.
5) At this point I went in and informed the counter personnel that I was there for the "Try out FN's latest Tactical Firearms". I was told that "that doesn't start until tomorrow". With some amount of righteous indignation I informed them that their newspaper ad said that it began on Sept 14th. Another customer chimed in that today is the 13th. Have you seen the T-shirts that have a finger pointing and say: "I'm with stupid". I need one that says: "I am stupid".
6) Having driven nearly 50 miles on my excursion, I decided to look around at the store and see what all they had. I thought if I just walked out with my face matching the color of my red shirt it would just make me look an even bigger fool; I'd buy something.
7) Whoa, a Ruger Alaskan behind the case. I remembered what it was going to cost me had Becky been able to get it for me, and it was more than their price of $649. It was in 454 Casull - just what I wanted.
8) Having been around since the advent of electricity (okay, I'm stretching it), I asked what the "OTD" price would be. He went and checked his books, did a bit with the calculator, and said $637.50. That meant I'd be getting the gun for $600. Also, they don't have a charge for using credit cards.
9) Sometimes things work out in spite of me being such an idiot. Had I gotten there on the right day, I wouldn't have spent all the time looking around the store and would have missed the Ruger.
MLB, my list is essentially empty. Taurus hasn't gotten the 24/7 OSS in production yet, and that is the only thing left that interests me. I've read about the H&P P30, but it doesn't sound like anything that I want.
Something Alexander the Great said comes to mind.
